View Full Version : help with catching LARGE bristleworm

hi all
I got my LR yesterday, went over it finely got off any nudi's taht i didnt want in the tank etc...... and got everything in the tank and OMG there's a 6-8" bristle worm, i want him gone! It's going to be a reef tank eventually, It's the 34 gal red sea max, totally not big enough for him to live there......

how can i catch him? I inverted a bottle, and watched him lastnite take the dead shrimp out of the bottle, and back into his hiding spot.... he's freakingly HUGE im scared to touch anything in the tank now :(

They are yuckie arent they :yes: I just snagged one about that big out of my refugium. Make sure you dont touch them with your bare hands.. they have a zillion-12 bristles on them that are worse than stinging nettles.
Ive seen bristle worm traps for sale in LFS or you could make one out of a pop bottle cut in half then put the funnel 1/2 back into the bottom. I seem to see mine when I feed the tank mysis. Then I ( hubby dearest if I can make him) catch them with tweezers and flush em fast! They really dont hurt anything tho, and most tanks have them.

thanks.. ithink i got him, i removed him (and the LR where i chased him back into) into a bucket, with freshwater.. hopefully that will do him in. i checked today, he hasnt crawled outta the LR (now dead.. put it in FW over night outside) I guess i'll try breaking the rock.. and make sure i got him (i rather lose that peice ofLR vs, having him in my tank!!)

yah.. i've been having nightmares with that thing in my house! Yikes.. but he's goner's now. I grabbed the right rock that he was living in.. and we broke it open today.. after 24 hrs in FW outside.....and yeppers.. he's a goner! I feel kinda mean, I dont want it in my tnak though!
