Can you imagine having two sets of jaws?... one set in your mouth and one set in your throat and being able to move those jaws up into your mouth to grab and help swallow your food? :wideeyed: Most fish swallow their food by suction but using a second pair of jaws is apparently how the moray eel eats. Scientists actually have xrays showing the jaws in both positions. To see pics of the xrays and read the article click here (http://www.sciencedaily.com/releases/2007/09/070905134523.htm).

I am reasonably certain that my teenager has that too.

... and two stomachs of which one is always empty.

Both are always empty. I haven't had a 'no' from the question 'Are you hungry?', in three years. The back to school runners are size 11 1/2! Pretty soon I'll have my very own bodyguard.
But back to the topic, interesting, if gross, fishy fact!

Gross? Not really. I just explains why once grabbed by a moray eel, the prey doesn't stand a chance. It is interesting how they have evolved so differently. It does to show how little we know about some of the aquatic creatures with whom we have supposedly become so familiar.

When you're swimming in the sea,
And an eel bites your knee,
That's a Moray!

 That's a good one... however, after looking at the pic, I'm not so sure about wanting to go 'swimming in the sea'. :wideeyed:

I hate eels and that did not make me like them anymore. What a hideous creature.

I like them best as pictures and in nature shows on tv. I definitely don't want to meet a moray.
