Some great shots... so I guess it's only me that has about a 1% success rate with photos (or did you secretly take something like 20,000 and these are the 'keepers' ? ). :nah: , guess not or you'd still be editing. :twitcy:

What I want to know is did you manage to get pics of each and every one of your fish or were there still some elusive ones?

Very nice  . What were the Rainbows sold to you as? They look like a cross between Axelrodi and Turquoise Rainbows. Rainbows are so photogenic.

The lyres are growing up fast - how old are they now?

I mixed up some new photos and some old. That photo of the sword fry was prob taken about 2 months ago. They're quite large now and have all found new homes. I had to make space for the 45-50 that just dropped. Oh, and the new fish I've found an interest in...LOL

The yellow rainbows are (spelling) Bosemani and the others were sold as australian rainbows. I'll be looking for a few dwarf rainbows next and some black water tonic...LOL I really do like them. The color contrast between the rams/rainbows and swords is beautiful!!!

I'm eyeballing a 180gal now. I just have to figure out where to put it::D:

They are ID sharks. The albino is 12" now and the black one is 13-14". They are sooo gentle. I haven't had any problems and I've had fish as small as young pigmy cory's in with them. Also jouvenile swordtails. They are actually timid of the other fish. The tank is a 125 gal and is 6 ft long. I'm looking at a 8ft long tank for them now, I think is 180 gals. The 125 just looks to small for them too me.

Did you happen to rehome the swordtails in his tummy?

LOL Sorry, couldn't resist. Glad its working out, but I still wouldn't trust them. He must have his tummy full of other good stuff.

Actually it's funny you should say that. For the longest time I was feeding them HBH all veggie wafers. I read that as they get older their primary diet is veggie. I tried to switch to Hikary because I like that brand better for nutrients better and they stopped eating. Someone pointed out to me that Hikary brand has protien in it so they wouldn't touch it.
When I put in frozen foods every night they won't eat it and pace until I put in algae wafers for them. They don't wait long before swallowing them whole.
Don't worry, I'm watching them though.

Some say they prefer vegies as they age, but I've yet to see an omnivore or herbivore turn up their nose at live food....lol. They definitly wouldn't turn down a food just because there's some protein in it, they're omnivores... maybe they just didn't like it overall. If I recall correctly, they favour vegies as they age because they're easier to eat, not because they actually like it better.

I only mention it everytime so people realize its the exception, not the norm. Don't want people putting these things in with small fish and having a disaster happen:eek: .

The skittish part is typical - they've been known to bash their heads until they knock themselves out, then wake up and do it again. They'd probably be more calm in a school, but of course, that's not practical.

Certainly are eye-catching fish!

So far 2 out of 2 haven't touched live food or frozen foods yet. I've been watching. They wait for the algae wafers patiently. They've all been together now for months and no disasters yet. I'll let cha know if that changes. I'm afraid i'm going to have to stick with my "gentle giant" theory until I experience something else. I will certainly post of something happens though. Have you kept ID sharks before??

Melody
Sep 10th 2007, 11:13 PM
LOL Heavens no, but I can read. So you stick to your theory, I'll stick to mine, which is seconded by countless experts. To be responsible I will warn people who want to keep these omnivore fish with small species. because as everyone knows, if its small enough to fit into a fish's mouth, it can be eaten. If you read up on them, you'll see the very same thing, including a list of foods recommended for them. If you feel yours are an exception, that's great, I hope it continues to work for you.

Thanks for posting the pic's!

They are gorgeous fish, and must be a blast to watch !! Their streamlined look, and shark like fins... amazing! And their big eyes and mouths ! I wish I had a tank they would fit in... but them growing up to 3ft long is too big for me...:( A miniature version would be nice

Thanks for sharing !

I posted a thread on the local classifieds for a small pond. I'd like to put them outside during the warm season.

I'm trying to work out a deal with this guy.... He sounds interested in trading for my 125 gal with cash. I think the sharks would be a little happier until the summer when I could get them into a pond. http://www.usedvictoria.com/classified-ad/3902521&category=aquariums-fish
