Common name:T-Bar cichlid, Sajica Cichlid, Blue eyed convict

Scientific name: Archocentrus sajica

Family:Archocentrus

Origin:Costa Rica to Panama

Adult size: 5"

Tank Specs:

Minimum Tank Size: 30G,
Water Parameters (PH): pH: 7.0-7.8
Temperature: 22°c-27°c
Special Requirements: A tank with alot of hiding places. Decor is a must. Moderate-Fast flow. Rounded gravel to prevent cuts when diggingSuitable Tankmates: Other semi agressive fish which can take the agression of the T-bars. Fish like barbs, rainbowfish, larger tetras, larger loaches, and other CA cichlids do well with them.

Minimum Group Size: Any (more females than males is best)

Diet:Omnivore

Sexing:Males have more colour and will develop a lump on their head

Breeding and Reproduction:Cave spawners. Males and females will lock lips and fight alot during breeding. Usually are laid in hollows of driftood or under rocks. These fish will also spawn in large cla flowerpots. More than three hundred eggs will be laid. They will hatch in 3-4 days. Fry will eat the parent slime coat at first, but after about 48 hours start feeding baby brine shrimp or other microfoods for fry. Parents become very territorial during spawning.

Notes:These fish are cute. They have lots of personality in those big blue eyes. They are semi rare, although in my area there is an abundance because they don't stop breeding. They are very closely related to the convict, but are much much much less agressive than their cousins, except during spawning. They grow quickly and make great pets.
