I walked into a doc's office today where I saw the most beautiful teeny little saltwater set up (maybe 33 gals). It had a large mound of coral and live rock and barnacles in the middle of the tank. It wasn't so beautiful when I got closer and noticed a HUGE (the biggest i've seen) puffer crammed in the corner of the tank:( . It didn't even have enough space to turn let alone to swim:no: . When I finally got into the docs office , I commented on what a pity it was to see such a beautiful creature crammed into such a small living space and also mentioned that the parameters much plumit quickly and have to be changed often.
His response: I paid a fortune for that thing, I'm not about to get rid of it and I don't change the water, I hired someone to do it so I wouldn 't know about the water parameters. I have a lot more important things to worry about.
My response: Have you ever thought of upsizing the tank so you can keep the fish in a more comfortable environment???
His response; As I mentioned, I have more important things to worry about. :FishOnDaHead: :BOLTS:

Needless to say, I had the urge to slap the man and walk out. I feel like taking a transport bag and a large purse the next time I walk into that office!!!!!

I can't wrap my head around that mentality. Why do people who don't care about animals get pets? I can imagine your frustration.

I don't think I would go back to a doctor that cares so little about living things. Maybe you should have told him that!!!

I didn't have a choice. The hospital emerg room sent me to him because Jordon decided that he needed to have a pencil crayon lodged in his ear canal that the hospital couldn't remove. He was bored at school. I wasn't about to wait for the next doc in that case:no: *sigh* only my kids.

This is why I strongly dislike most doctors. The god complex and giant egos.

It speaks poorly of his regard for creatures under his care, of any species.

Why not drop a letter to your local humane society or what-not? Just recently in New Brunswick a pet store was on watch from the local Humane society / SPCA, as it was not caring for its fish properly... tonnes of dead fish, etc etc... They even went in and tested the water to find the levels of toxins to high, and told them if they did not fix the issues, they would be 'rescued' from the premises. Well... the store did clean up their act pretty fast, thank goodness.

A Doctor would not want such publicity... and since he is not your regular doctor, and you hopefully wont have to see him again, why not put in a complaint about the situation? You have nothing to loose... and if that fish is crammed in there to the point it cant turn around... he has a awful life ahead of him  So dropping an email to your local animal welfare place may be enough to convince him to buy a larger tank for the poor puffer... I mean, he surely can afford a larger tank !!

Poor thing.... You would think the company taking care of it for him would even want to see it in a larger tank ! I used to take care of a tank for a lawyers office years back, and what a sight it was when I first started there ! Dead fish, filter not running, and the ladies who took care of it thought the fish food was too gross to touch, so everytime they fed the fish, they just dumped in a whole bunch straight from the container....sheesh ! Took me awhile, but I soon taught them all how to feed and care for them properly.... and I came every month to clean the tank... it was fun !
