Google sketchup is a pretty neat 3D modelling tool that is pretty easy to use. You can create objects of any size and complexity with it. It would be really useful for those planning fishrooms, tank stands, racks etc. as it allows you to model every aspect.

See http://www.advancedaquarist.com/2007/3/aafeature2#h2 for applications specific to aquaria and grab it here: http://sketchup.google.com/

Best of all, the base version is free.

I love how easy this program is to use! In about 10 minutes I was able to design a basic 75G tank and stand.

I can't wait to play with this some more. If I can design a basic cabinet stand and get the measurements, it will make building the real thing that much easier.

I'm using this program for work. Easier to render an idea than to mock it up on an actual building. Especially @330ft from a swing stage!

As it's officially fall and before long some of us will find time for those winter projects like building tank stands, etc. so I thought I'd give this handy DIY thread a bump.
