Scientific name: Anubias barteri var barteri
Family: Plant
Origin: West Africa
Adult size: 25-45 cm high, 15+ cm wide
Light Requirements: Low to High
Notes: This is a wonderful plant for just about any aquarium. Although slow growing, they will tolerate very low light levels in the aquarium. The leaves are tough, and many plant eating fish will not be able to eat them.
When planting, don't bury the creeping rhizome in the substrate as it might rot. The plant can be attached to driftwood or rocks with some cotton thread. Once established, the thread will rot away leaving only the plant. Under good condtions, the plant may flower underwater.
Propogation is fairly easy. Using a sharp pair of scisccors, pieces of the rhizome with a half dozen leaves can be removed from the mother plant and used elsewhere.
Buy it once and have it forever.
There are several other cultvars available, including A. barteri var nana (dwarf) and A. barteri var. caladiifolia ''1705''. Varigated forms are also available.
