Breeding and Reproduction: Put a several caves (2 1/2" wide, 1" tall and 4 1/2" long) perpendicular to the flow of the water. This is your basic pleco housing. Make sure the caves aren't to close to each other.
Next condition your pleco for a dry and wet season. During the dry season, cut back on your feeding and lower your water level. Leave it like that for at least 1 week to 4 weeks. Then change it to a wet season buy raising the water level, aeration and food. This will beef them up. Leave it like this for about 4 weeks. Within this time frame, look for activies where the male may be out of his cave bossing a female around or the female hanging around the alpha males cave.
If both are ready, all it takes is one night together in the alpha males cave and you'll get a batch of eggs. Inexperience couples may take 2 nights. If they are together on the third night, you might want to do something about it. Some times that's how 2 males fight over a cave.
1 batch of eggs will consist around 8 - 25 depending on the size, health and how much of the right food you're feeding the female.
The father will care for the eggs, fanning and protecting the cave. The eggs will hatch in 7 or 8 days. They will remain a wriggler for another 7 - 8 days, slowly consuming their yoke sack. Once their yoke sack are consume, start feeding crushed shrimp pellets and baby brime shrimps.

Notes: A fairly rare type of pleco. They can fetch a fairly high price tag. Many people think plecos eat algea, but in fact, most hypancistrus species are meat eaters. They love shrimp pellets and other foods like bloodworm and brine shrimp.
