Common name: Alto. Comp.
Scientific name: Altolamprologus compressiceps
Family: Cichlidae
Origin: Africa: Lake Tanganyika.
Adult size: 6 inches
Tank Specs
Minimum Tank Size: 40gallons for adults

Water Parameters (PH/GH/KH): pH 8-8.5, and very hard water (12-15°dGH)
Temperature: 74-79

Special Requirements: The wild caught specimens require the higher ranges in pH and hardness.
Suitable Tankmates: Those of similar size and temperament and water requirements. They are moderately aggressive, and are predators.

Minimum Group Size: One to many

Diet: Carnivore

Sexing: Males higher bodied and have slightly longer fins

Breeding and Reproduction: The Female will pick a crevice or shell that the male cannot fit into, where she will lay her eggs, and the male will release his sperm over the opening.

Notes: These fish are VERY slow growers. They are also laterally compressed, allowing them to squeeze into tight spots to suck out there prey of small crustaceans and insects and fish. Come in different varieties such as Gold Head, Red fin, Firefin etc...
