:Research: Melody is giving me some green goodeids so I can breed them for preservation. I am taking this very seriously and it is a big responsibility. I have found some information about them but nothing says what they feed them. :Dunno: Do they eat the same stuff as other livebearers? Is there anything that they would eat in their habitat that I can get for them? Melody said that other people here have them and could also help me so I have a lot of opinions.

I feed mine regular flake .along with veggie flakes, brine shrimp, occasional blood worms, they seem to like it all:smile:

I've already given Chris my two cents, but in case anyone else is wondering, they are good eaters who eat everything that my other Livebearers do. Here that is a wide variety of flakes/pellets, frozen, freeze-dried and homemade foods, with a strong emphasis on veggies. I have read that a Goodeid's color will fade if they don't get enough vegies, but I've never tested that theory.

Its good that you posted here because Bloodworms is one food that I wouldn't mention, since I'm alergic to them.:wideeyed:

I forgot to mention that pregnant Goodeids are different from the common Livebearers we're used to. The unborn fry get all of their nourishment from the Mother, as opposed to just a bit like the common Livebearers. So its important to feed a variety of top quality foods to Mom especially.

All my Goodieds eat anything I put in the tank.

Don't worry Mick, babies will come. My Greens took a while, but now there's 6 little ones in their tank.

They do seem to take longer to mature enough to breed. Once they start though, they're good breeders. My male chases the female constantly, to a point that I feel sorry for her and turn the light off so she can hide...lol.

That's awesome Chris! I knew you'd do fine with them. Anyone who worries as much as you do about them can't help but take good care of them.

They're too big to eat for most fish that are similar in size to the parents. Congrat's!

Seeing them give birth is something else. How the female does it without killing the male by fry three, I don't know. :wideeyed:

I got to watch my Red tail female give birth. It was quite a site to see.

I was surprised by the male, instead of his never ending harassment and bullying, it seemed like he standing guard for her, making sure nobody messed with her.

She had a big batch of fry for her first pregnancy, about 12 fry.
