I'm sure everyone has heard (& seen) on the news, the terrible fires California is experiencing. According to this report (http://www.news1130.com/news/international/article.jsp?content=w102445A)the fires "have destroyed 1,500 homes and caused at least a half-million people to flee".

One of our two uniquely Canadian Mars Water Bombers (http://www.martinmars.com/) is heading down there today from Port Alberni, BC to help fight the fires. Canada has the only 2 remaining planes of this type which are extremely effective in fighting fires. They "can scoop up 7,000 gallons in about 25 seconds" from a nearby water source to drop on a fire. See story here (http://www.news1130.com/news/national/article.jsp?content=n1023149A).

Let's hope for all concerned that they can get these fires under control soon.

Yah., thats pretty cool that we are aiding in fighting their fires. Especially since a good chunk of Southern Americans could carte less about Canadians.. LOL
.. They are really impressive aircraft. Im not sure what kind we got based up here in Prince George, but we got 3 or 4 based outta here. Slightly smaller than the mars Bombers i believe.

One of our affiliates were booted out of their office for a few days, and some from their homes. They're back now so its either better or moving in a different direction. Must be very hard on the lungs.

Oh, no doubt.. i remember in 2004 when we had the major fires in BC here that destroyed hundreds of homes and a whole town, the smoke was really hard on the lungs, people were keeling over and getting hospitalized cause of the smoke.. it was nasty.
