Another exciting day. My orange lyretail mollie gave birth today. I think there is about 30 babies. Hopefully the dad is the orange sailfin that I got from Melody, if not it is from a previous hit before I got her in July. A few seem to have quite a bit of black, while others don't. Will just have to wait and see - hard to tell right now.

About 3 weeks ago, my Creamsicle mollie gave birth again after only 4 weeks after the first ones. Am still trying to figure out who the Dad is. Quite possibly the Velifera. They do not look like much at the moment, but I guess time will tell.

More exciting news. I won the auction for Melody's Bottom Bites!

I am sure that my pleco will be right in the middle of the Bottom Bite fights. If I drop an Algae Wafer or a Sinking Pellet into my tank, he chases all the fish away. So now I break them up into small pieces and spread them around. He tries to guard them all, but it is impossible. It is actually quite comical. The fish know not to go after his piece. They just lurk around watching & hoping he will leave the piece. Nothing doing! He will stay there until it is gone.

haha.. my two Plecos dont go anywhere near the wafers half the time when i drop one in.. LOL.. and all my other fish go and form a kinda little bubble around it and they take turns picking at it, till my shark comes along, than they scatter and he takes a nice big bite outta it.. haha.. its weird how fish act around algae wafers.. But get this, than my chinese pleco takes a run at my shark for taking some.. LOL

I thought plecos were very docile - well, not mine and not when it comes to food.

What kind is he? Sounds a bit like my brown lace bn. Very bossy. All the rest of my males are very docile and very rarely come out when the food is first put in.

I really do not know what kind he is - a BN though. Since I wanted one for my 16 gallon tank, BA's had some in there a few months back for small tanks. He is only supposed to grow to about 3" which he is now. No wonder, he is such a piggy.

Congrat's on the babies! I think there's a good possibility that our male got his hit in if its been three months. Maybe not, but the more time that passes, the better the chance. Plus, I have heard that if they get a hit in within a few hours of a birth, she takes their insemination... I think I heard that about Guppies but it could apply to their relatives, which include Mollies.

I'll be sending extra Bottom Bites since the shipping is so outrageous to Ontario. You can tell the Pleco the extras are for him. :;): I wish I had time to make them more often. I guess I'll have to find the time to at least keep a personal supply. Thank goodness for Dainichi and Omega One foods or my fish would starve waiting for me to make them something!

Sounds like a bad case of MTS (Multiple tank syndrome) is about to happen !

Don't worry, MTS comes to all of us ........

You are a wonderful lady with a heart of gold. That's great for you to offer to send more and I will gladly pay for them, but please do not take them from your personal supply. My pleco will survive just fine without them.

This hobby is fairly new to me, but MTS has already started to happen:yes: in a small way. There is now a 30, 16, 6, & 2 gallon tank in the house. When I read about all of you with MTS, I say this will not happen to me. :nah:

You have to pay much more for them with shipping, so a top-off is only fair. This is between me and your Pleco, so just let us work it out. :;):

OK, OK! I do not like to argue. My pleco says thanks very much!!! He also says he do his best to keep those extras all to himself!! Thanks Melody.

I think we have all said that. I still say it every time I get another tank. That's it no more. Just got one a couple weeks ago and already thinking about the next. Then I am done! The total with then be 8.

Sure Pam! Do you think if you keep saying it enough, you'll convince yourself it's true? . :nah: , I don't think it works that way because you'll find you are working on a particular color strain and want to keep certain fish separate or you'll see some fish that require different parameters than you currently have, or you really want a certain fish that is not a community fish, and of course there is the excuse of always needing q-tanks. :;):

That sounds of sooo familiar. My dad actually left the farm and came down for a visit. Anyway he sees Hubby carrying in another tank for me. And suggests I move them all out to insulated/heated garage!!! And it even has hot water we can run to it. Hubby did not think it was funny!!!

LOL Dad is a veteran at dealing with women. He knows that if he wanted to get fish tanks out of the house, he could do it by setting up a place for her to have them. She's happy, he's happy and the doghouse he would have been in by telling her to get rid of the tanks is now a fish house. :;):
