I too hope they're wrong, but I doubt it. If we get snow around here it's usually in November or January... rarely at Christmas (the only time I want it).
You do realize, of course, AquaScaper, that our members elsewhere in the country will have a good chuckle. After all, here in the lower mainland we live in denial about snow.... until it starts falling.:Holiday-3:
At least the kids will love it! :Holiday-5:Mine always did. As soon as it started snowing, we'd drop everything & go out & build a snowman and hoped it would last a little while before the rain washed it away.

I'm typically quite afraid of the stuff.
I won't drive in it, even though my car is front wheel drive and handles well, I'm more afraid of the other idiots who know their cars aren't worthy and know that they don't have experience, yet persist in going out and endangering everyone else around them.

You should be congratulated for knowing your limits. I sure wish more people did!:err:
I'm originally from Montreal and when I first came here, I was astounded at people's lack of ability to drive in the snow.:wideeyed: However, many, many years later, I am much more patient with and forgiving of people's lack of 'snow'-driving skills here. There is so little opportunity to practice. It's difficult to become proficient at something we rarely do.
That said, the clueless idiots who get out there and endanger people's lives are another story! :realmad:

:Holiday-4: YAAAAAAAYYYY!!!! Sorry, spoken like a woman who works at home....lol.
I agree on the driving - its everyone else that we have to worry about. Please, take this weekend to get those tires in order, etc, and if you can get the day off, take it.
Get your supplies now - Rum & eggnog... oh yea, and food and other misc. less important stuff ;) .
I best get this kid some snow boots today I suppose. His feet are bigger than his Father's now  . Personally I think when kid gets that big he should get a job and buy his Mama things, but he's 12 and doesn't see it that way.:Holiday-2:

I agree on the rum and eggnog. Perfect way to sit out a snowstorm: drink rum & eggnog in front of a crackling fire. Hmmm! That's what's missing. (I've got the rum & eggnog)... you got a fireplace? If so, I'll be right over. :Holiday-17:

Got any pictures?
I have one!

STOP LAUGHING!!!! He's a perfectly respectable snowman!
Should double the price on those snow tires in the Classifieds Mr. GP.
Yup, got the fireplace on - had to warm up my freezing hands. Skipped the R & E though - I got a kid who expects me to make him pizza later so there's no booze for this chick. I rarely indulge, but I do enjoy a few of those each season, well spread out. I do have to pick some up for the eggnog milkshakes though :D .

Sure he's a perfectly respectable snowman... or was until you stabbed him through the heart with that stick... OUCH! Hmmm! :wideeyed: On second thought, you may have a fireplace (tempting) but I think I'll play it safe & keep me (& my R & E) at a safe distance.

Have fun diggin them out hehe.
I just measured the snow depth at our place and it's just over 6 inches and still coming down strong. If it keeps snowing like this until tonight, 12 inches will be a good possibility and apparently Environment Canada says it's gonna snow tomorrow too.

Actually, it's rather pretty outside (Christmas-like). But then, I don't have to work today. However, before it gets to deep, I think I ought to head out to replenish my eggnog and pick up the makings for a pot of stew. With weather like this, it just seems like a soup or stew kind of day.
I'm walking to the store but for those of you who have to head out on the roads, drive carefully, keep your distance and stay safe.
Melody
Nov 26th 2006, 01:32 PM
Aaawww poor Carl :hugs: . No, when I come over to play you will not be able to convince me that "Dig out the trucks" is a fun new snow game for Melody.
Soup is indeed the order of the day! That's funny actually, I just put turkey breasts in the oven so I can make turkey soup & fresh rolls...mmmm. Gonna do something rare for me tonight - watch a movie. Christmas movie of course, complete with eggnog milkshakes.
I was supposed to be making Bottom Bites this morning, but realized I'm out of baby peas. I can't make Bottom Bites without baby peas - there would be a revolt amongst the snails. That's ok, I'll check at Walmart since I'm going back  .
Got the kid his boots this morning, got home, he wants to play outside. Puts his Spring coat on <insert Mama lecture>. At which point he informs me that the zipper in his Winter coat is broken, has been since Friday.
<Insert Mama yelling about not being able to read his mind> He couldn't mention this earlier? He is truly becoming a man.
And have I mentioned that most of the cab drivers haven't even SEEN snow before, let alone driven in it?:realmad: I threatened to drive for one this morning. I don't have a license and I'd drive better than that. If they don't kill someone this weekend, it will be a miracle. Hopefully it won't be me. Its so bad that I'm leaving the kid home - no way is he driving with those idiots.

Maybe it's the 20 years of Calgary weather I've seen, +20 one day -20 the next, but it doesn't look that bad from here  .
Calgary weather takes a little getting used to, it's -20 today, by Wed, it'll be +10. A couple of times, in July and Aug, there has been enough snow to snowmobile in the evening. One New Years, a couple of years ago, we barbecued in the back yard !
Melody
Nov 26th 2006, 02:22 PM
I was waiting for you to chime in here Blaine...lol. You must understand that everyone here is scratching their heads, wondering why you people don't BBQ all year round like we do.;)
I spent the better part of a year in Edmonton, grew up in New Brunswick and lived for a decade or so in Inuvik. This is truly British California for me. I went without a jacket for the first Winter I was here, and I still freeze everyone half to death in my house.

You guys can keep the snow.
Ummmm Rum and Eggnog actually still have the little bottle of rum I bought two years ago, so just need the egg nog.
Melody
Nov 26th 2006, 09:49 PM
Let's all go to Pam's for the good stuff - aged rum & eggnog. Has to be 'light' eggnog Pam, I'm trying to find.... er... watch... my girlish figure.
A foot of snow and counting - even I don't need that much.
Y'all drive carefully tomorrow, or better yet, take a sick day. Check in when you get home safely, I'll be fretting. If I get more worry lines you'll have to have a fundraiser to pay for the plastic surgery. :Neener:

:realmad: No power again! 6pm till midnight. Bsmt started to flood again, we got the generator working the sump around 10pm and got it under control but still ended up with a little puddle under our stairs. Hubby can't get the doors un-stuck on the vehicles so that he can go to work this morning. this is just psycho...this is BC this kind of stuff isn't supposed to happen lol.
So they say bad stuff happens in 3's...what's next?
Melody
Nov 27th 2006, 11:21 AM
Careful - you may get a perspective lesson in 'bad'....lol. But I feel for you, very frustrating :hugs: . Our power was out this time, but only mid-afternoon until early evening. Its a tad chilly to be going without power so I hope that doesn't keep happening.
I haven't checked the weather again, but the last I heard we're looking at another 6" tomorrow.
Ontario has our weather. I think Pam stole it from us. :grinch:

All night last night we suffered from power surges (but no actual outages). It snowed steady all night and this morning I awoke to this:
http://i4.photobucket.com/albums/y145/Fishenthusiast/PICT0013.jpg
I took that picture from my bedroom window three stories up. See those foot prints in the snow? Those are mine . I moved my car last night because it was parked under that tree in the picture. I was worried about the branches breaking and crushing my car (which I haven't even made a car payment on yet:eek:!!!). This morning, I walked all the way to that building you see in the distance through ankle deep snow so I could go to work like a good little worker bee. :notworthy:
I sweep off 6" of snow from my car door as my considerate husband pops the lock. Together we reach for our car door handles, pull upwards.... and Nothing ! Both the doors are frozen solid. Now keep in mind I am wearing boots with 3" heels, those little pointy heels. It is -6 degrees outside, dark and my pants are wet. And to top it all off I can't even get into my car:rolleyes:! Defeated, I trudged back to my apartment, climbed the stairs very carefully as the snow didn't seem to notice that I heavily salted my stairs :wideeyed:, and went inside to thaw out over my stove because unlike Melody, I don't have a fire place:laugh:.

Oops, looks like the weather changed - clear for the next couple of days  .
3" heals.... your remind me of myself in Inuvik - almost killed myself, but damn I looked stylish on my butt in the middle of the street.
Hey, you can come with me to Carl's - he has a fireplace AND booze! :CokeSanta: <= St. Carl ;)

This is the first snow day that my Son has ever had in 8 years of BC schooling. He's pumped...lol. I usually don't let him roam the neighbourhood until noon so he doesn't wake people up on the weekends, but today he thinks he's lucky as he gets to go out at 11:30. Doesn't take much to make a kid happy.

Well, smart and sensible me went out today and got some snow boots and a new winter coat.
The snow is up to the car door so everytime I go to it I have to go shin deep in snow. Not fun at all. The worst part is it started snowing again, it is only flurries, but that is what I saw last night and I woke up to a whole lot of snow. :twitcy:
At least the car doors aren't frozen anymore. Even though hubby got his license in BC, he grew up in Ontario and he must have inherited eastern instincts on how to drive in the snow. He is an excellent driver overall, but in the snow he is the best I have ever seen. He can drive me to work until the snow is gone.

I skipped school and went skiing. It was kind of ridiculous how much snow there was. It was cold but that kept the snow light and fluffy all day. It was terrible I felt guilty about class ;)

It was a balmy -30 here last night, wasn't bad really because there was no wind. The wind was back this morning, radio said it -45 with the windchill.
Weather man says we'll be warmed up by Thursday though. Something about 0 degrees. Hope the weather people aren't lying to me again.
Melody
Nov 28th 2006, 08:12 AM
Weather people, dentists and the vast majority of men lie to me, so don't feel bad:laugh: .
More snow here tonight I'm told. For the information of those passengers travelling with small children here in BC;) , there is a listing of school closures here:
