Can ya believe, I bought more fish ?

Can ya believe they're not livebearers ?

Colby over at Elite convinced me that I should have some Rainbows in my tanks. So here they are.

Celebese Rainbows. Also got a couple good shots of my Tico girls also.

The Ticos and Rainbows seem to have taken to hanging out together. Both are a shy quiet fish.

Next up, Porthole livebearer fry. You can they they have their spots right from birth.

These next ones are of my recently arrived Poeciliopsis Prolifica "el pallilo" Mexico and Gold H. formosa.

The Prolifica are the ones with the black stripe, otherwise they are nearly completely clear. The H. formosa have the black spot on they're dorsal fin.

And there is still one empty tank !!!

Now what to put in there .........

Gorgeous fishies & great pic's. Did you get a new camera or is there just more light? I'm trying to find the key to getting better pic's and I am not looking forward to spending $1200 perfectly good fish dollars on a camera.

That Colby is wicked, by the way. He knows full well that Rainbows are an addiction all their own!

Same old camera, some days I get great pictures, some days not. Not really sure why.

I can see how rainbows can be an addiction all on their own, beautiful fish.

Yup, they're one of the few groups that I stray to on occasion outside of Livebearers. I had a decent collection at one time.

They can be prone to some very nasty diseases that will wipe the population slowly, unfortunately, so always purchase from trusted sources and give them a VERY long quarantine. Their most deadly infection, Mycobacteriosis (fish TB), can take weeks to even show symptoms in Rainbows, whereas it kills other species quickly and systematically. Adrian covers this well on the Rainbowfish (http://members.optushome.com.au/chelmon/Myco.htm) site.

Good article Melody. Unfortunate there is no available cure for the disease.

Very sad. It is one that can rip through wild stocks of farm fish but isn't that common, so I doubt we'll see much study on it. If there's no money in the results, it doesn't get studied. Rainbows are definitly prone to it though. Wild release could devestate the species exposed.

Beautiful fish & really great pics. I do know what you mean about sometimes getting good pics other times not... but in my case it's mostly the latter.

I just noticed it again this morning - fresh batteries result in better pic's. I don't know if its the speed, flash power or both, but I definitly get better pic's on fully charged batteries. Even when the battery is showing as charged in the camera window, its not the same as fresh batteries. Go figure.

I've heard Oscars are a great fish if you have the room for them. Unfortunately most of my fish would simply be snacks for an Oscar ! :err:

Nezzie sword fry and juvies. I'm hoping these guys start to sex out soon, the tanks getting crowded.

The L. Perugia fry are playing peek-a-boo among the plants. Cute.

The tanks with the Nezzies is so clear it gives the illusion that they are just swimming around the room.

Still not sure about the avatar...... a fish grabbing the bug would be perfect .

True! Now, if you had a cat, it would soon forget about the fish and be up a the monitor trying to swat your avatar.

It is very difficult to sex young Swordtails with any certainty unless you see a pregnant belly or a gono. They are the worst for being late bloomers, to a point where I sell mine as unsexed unless one of the two indicators is there. You can always sell them in lots of unsexed juvies.

The Perugiae are colouring up nicely!

I know my Green swords took (what felt like) forever to begin to show their sexes. I have noticed that the Nezzies do seem to grow faster, so I'm hoping they'll come around a little quicker.

As for the Perugia, must say I'm quite proud of how they have turned out.
