View Full Version : Lets get to know one another

Thought i'd toss this idea out there....I've seen it on other forums and is a cool way to get to know the people on here...What i would suggest is not only introducing themselves, but what you do for a living, age etc......

If anyone thinks that this is too personal, that's cool, they don't need to participate. I just think that alot of problems we have with our hobby are answered by people on forums just like this, and these people become both family and friends in a wierd twisted sort of way:D

I'm a 27 year old male, engaged to be married this April, i'm a bakery manager for Canada Safeway

Interestingly, I'm already at the point where birthdays are a good/bad thing.

Good thing - One year closer to retirement !
Bad Thing - More grey hair, more sore muscles !

Good thing - getting older is better than the alternative. I thought you were older than me - kids grown up and leaving the nest & all that. You must have been married at 12...lol....either that or I'M old enough to have one grown up and gone... :nah: .

Anyways, neat idea. I'm 38, techie/designer. I have two Son's, one with me, one watching over us. I do fish and computers and very little else.

This IS a good idea - I thought Jonesy was a girl...lol.

Hey, I guess I'm the old guy here (56). I'm a city transit bus driver. (Years ago, in another lifetime it seems, computer programming/training/support was my livelihood.) And the most important thing is that I love to drive Melody nuts.

PS. Don't worry, Jonsey, Melody once thought I was a girl too... she's easily confused. ... its' ok, we love her anyways!;)

Because you look better in my fishnet pantyhose than I do?

LOL KIDDING! I was reading 'Jonesy' as 'Joansey', a cute variation of 'Joan'. But that's ok, you're getting married, so you might just as well be female, or dead. :hugs: Poor dead fishie...

I do that all the time. There's a guy from another forum, whom may even be lurking around here, pointing and laughing at me, whom I thought was a girl too. The thing with her/him was we hit it off, became good friends. Such good friends that I planned to go spend the weekend with her/him, doing a fishie store tour in lovely Alberta.

Man he must have thought us BC girls were very friendly, but who was he to argue if some strange chick wanted to spend the weekend with him? lol I did find out before jetting off, but even I would have had to find it hilarious had I not. That one would have been straight out of a movie.

Heh, when I first read your name to me it looked like a diff variation of Joan with a cute zee sounding ending lol. Maybe we should have someone edit that for you to read Jones_y or something lol. Jones sounds very masculine  Not that anyone is questioning your masculinity at this point or anything:nah:

That's because Carl could sniff out a female on earth from space if he wanted to... as could most males for that matter.

Embrace your feminine side Jonesy - just don't come out of the closet on your wedding day... that would be extreme and I want my fishnet pantyhose back. :err:

Not married, and nope..not getting married again. Nope nope never never never.

Is it just me, or do those sound very much like famous last words?

We'll all sign a wedding card with a print-out of that quote for you on your wedding day. ;)

I didn't know most of them a year or so ago either. Friendly Canadian fish-keepers, needed an equally friendly place to hang out...

LOL I spike everyone's order - I smoke, YUCK! So I spritz my outgoing. But I'm quitting - almost done in fact, down to practically nothing compared to the 1.5-2 packs/day I used to polish off  .

Yummy....lol...thanks, I needed that.:)

Hey, I gotta hold up the male flag here. Jonesy, I had never doubted your orientation or preferences, not that it matters anyways.

Datburnit!! I wished I kept some of Melody's boxes...sometimes you need that uhmmm...that yummy feeling!

Me, I am a male age 45, married with 3 girls and not one of them cares to be a budding fishkeeper.

I've done 10 years time with CCRA, my last position as a Systems Analyst, but self-employed now playing with everybody else's money. I love sniping on eBay, but have to play with the stock market to fund that nasty habit. Otherwise family time, fish, martial arts and playing new golf courses, that's what keeps the fire burning.

Should I be sending you guys my perfume formula for your significant others? Or is it just that faint whiff of strange perfume that does it for you? lol If I can nail your reaction, I could be rich AND yummy! I need to start a new poll  .

Actually, speaking of yummy, I read once in a magazine that they tested men with scents to see which one they found most attractive. I kid you not, the winner was Apple Pie.

This reply is sooo totally OT I probably shouldn't be posting it, but I am going to anyway :wideeyed:.

I never would have guessed you smoked, you just don't seem to be the "type". I quit smoking..... ummm.... 1 Month, three weeks, 1 day, 19 hours, 31 minutes and 52 no 53 seconds ago.

In total my husband and I have not smoked 2690 cigarettes, and have not spent $969.40 on something that you end up burning and throwing the ashes in the garbage. We are going to have a good Christmas this year! Hey I even was able to buy a car!

I got a quit meter that runs in the background on my computer. I spend an inordinate amount of time at my computer so having that constant reminder is great. Especially now when I have come so far. Every time I want to smoke I look at my quit meter and ask myself if it is really worth it. The answer is no every time. I congratulate you for how far you have come. It is no easy feat.

Both the fiance and I smoke as well, although she quit this week in preperation from baby making next year...:D:D:D:D:D:D Practicing is half the fun isn't it???lol

I guess i'll have to quit too, although all my life i have heard that quitters never win.....

Damn motivational phrases confuse me to know end...
Anyone know why there is an interstate highway in Hawaii???

Thanks for your encouragement. Is there a smoking type? lol I've been smoking since it WAS cool, around 30 years ago, regularly for about 25 years. It hasn't been that hard so far. You probably haven't noticed, but I'm a stubborn little thing (oh cut out the gasps of fake shock, people....lol) so when I set my mind to something I can usually control it... 'cept for that chocolate craving, but Rome wasn't built in a day;) . I'm using Zyban for good measure, so that could also be part of the reason its been easier.

I like that meter idea! Its just time for me to give it up, so I am. I really had no desire to before. Cancer started the thought process, money kicked in and I'm seriously getting too old to think I'm immortal. Plus, in approximately 6 years when my Son is grown, I may actually want to kiss someone again....lol....now there's inspiration!

Congrat's on quitting! And its not off topic - its all a part of getting to know each other.

ROFL Inspiring indeed. You'll do it when you're ready and not one second or nag session before.

Practicing is ALL the fun - take your time for Heaven's sake - the first year of marriage is the hardest, throwing a baby in there is ... nuts....lol. Babysit a few infants - that will cure ya for awhile. ;)

I was down to 2-4 / day when I was pregnant, but I just couldn't give those last ones up. The Doc said it would be more stressful on my bod to try to quit entirely than it was to smoke a couple. Go figure.
