If you buy fish for your pond that get huge, be ready to house them over the Winter if they can't remain in the pond all year long. Releasing them into the wild can release the diseases they carry. Some diseases can be carried without showing symptoms.

Fishkeepers blamed for KHV outbreak (http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/pfk/pages/item.php?news=1447)

Cold water fish can also survive in the deeper water, which can wipe out native species through predation and competition for food.

Wild release is one of the most irresponsible and self-centered things that a fishkeeper can do. If you have a fish or other aquatic creature/plant that you can't keep or find a new home for, euthanize it.
