Depends on if its coming from something internal or if its just finrot, but the best start is clean water and aquarium salt if the fish are tolerant of it. Melafix can't hurt.

Sea salt works fine. Mix at 1 tablespoon per 5 gallons.
Most fish are tolerant of that level of salt, the only ones that may be stressed by it are loaches and catfish.
Use a jar or something similar to mix the salt with tankwater. Mix 2 or 3 spoonfuls at a time and gently pour the salt mix into the water.
Do this over a few hours to bring up the salt content of the water.
As you do this, watch the fish. If they seem to be stressed by it, then do a large water change to get the salt out.
I've used this without any visible harm to my catfish or loaches a few times. This shouldn't hurt most plants either.
