Has anyone ever used permanent marker on Breather Bags? I'm not sure that it would be a good idea but there are times that I'd like to label similar species.

Thanks!

I've used peel & stick labels on them.

I was considering that but I was worried about covering any 'breathing' space. You can get some pretty small ones though.

Can you tell I'm still paranoid about these bags? LOL a fish in a bag with no air gives me the heebie jeebies. I'm getting used to it though and they sure do better in them. There will come a time when people will say "You shipped fish in bags with air? That's horrible!" I guess after shipping hundreds of fish that way, it seems twice as wrong to bag them without the air.

Thanks for the suggestion!

Why not use non-toxic erasable markers? ya would just have to be careful not to rub it off.. LOL

I suppose a little masking tape around the top of the bag with the name written on it could work.

or a piece of paper with an elastic around it.

All good ideas in fact! Such creative people  . The only thing I worry about with 'non-toxic', is it means non-toxic to humans. Much less risk though I'm sure.

I had to give up on them. I don't know what changed at Canada Post but they're getting thrown around more or something. I went for years with no losses unless the shipment was delayed, then suddenly I was losing some in every other shipment. I like that they don't get thrown into the air pocket and I can use a lot more water. Hopefully that's the ticket because DOA's stress me out enough that I'd rather not ship.

Hi Mel,
I'd suggest not to write on them especially with permanent markers. In the past I've noticed that the markers will sometimes react with certain plastics. Also, look at some CD's. Some will have a warning about writing with certain permanent markers.

So, especially with the breather bags (since they are so thin and made of 'unique' plastics), I'd rather not write on them.

What I do is slide the breather-bagged fish/snail in a fish bag filled with styro peanuts and then write on the fish bag. Yes, it's a bag within a bag but at least you can write on the bag and you can also fill the outer bag (besides the styro peanuts and breather bagged fish), with pure oxygen.

I hope that helps. Good luck!

Well hello Mr. Mykiss, great to hear from you  . Thanks for the tips! I am glad I refrained from writing on the bag now... whew! Pam would never have forgiven me.
