I was just asked if we intend to fancify our classifieds set-up. Fancify? LOL Good thing they provided an example.

First, our Classifieds will eventually be sorted, or at least searchable, by Province. We are not a small local site, we are Canada-wide and the solutions have to suit our future plans. We are proud to provide both BC and Canada with a peaceful and prosperous place to hang out.

Second, the example provided looks good on the surface, but we are lucky enough to have a Techie around here who has also run his own business in Tech Support. Because of that, he knows that what can go wrong, usually will. If not today, then tomorrow. That's why he does things like creating a back-up copy of the forum for testing.

He's not here for me to ask for specifics so I'm sure he can expand on this when he is available. However, even I saw the problem with the example Classifieds system - its no longer being supported. It was designed by a 15 year old kid. A very smart kid obviously, and how well he did with the program is admirable, but you can't expect him to cope with running a full time business. He shut down - he no longer supports the program.

We can't have a stable system with unsupported programming. Not only is it open to conflicts, compatibility issues, etc, it also allows for security holes that won't be patched.

There are many reasons that we do the things we do here and we welcome you to question and post anytime. Although I enjoy your e-mails/PM's, please don't feel that you ever have to refrain from posting to avoid conflict. We are professionals and we expect to hear from you about your concerns. If you are more comfortable going the private route, that's just fine too.

Our ultimate responsibility is providing a stable environment so you don't wake up to a missing website or an empty Classifieds section. I wanted it all when we first launched - I found hacks and all sorts of things to 'fancify'....lol....I bounced them over to Jay, totally pumped about building the best of the best. He bounced 90% of them right back to me. He knows what can go wrong and what we need from a developer, and I value his ability to think things through, study and test before acting.
