I keep hearing about Menagerie but I'm not the biggest fan of driving downtown. Driving across the metal streetcar rails freaks me out for some reason. Its probally a blessing in disguise actually. :) Eventually I'll get there.

I was at Menagerie last Sunday (my FAVORITE STORE !),
They did have some nice aggie reds but I still had a couple water changes to go before adding apistos. I more or less wanted to see what was in stock and was so long since I went. I went home with 3 sia's and 3 plants, including an amazing Crypt Lucens.
Usually I will only buy from there or from local aquarists. But wed night I went to the closest ba on a whim and they had aggies there. I broke my rule, picked the 2 nicest ones from the tank and went on my way lol.
'Dasher' and the missus are doing well. Haven't named the missus yet. Maybe 'Misty'.
Ok I'm 36. Why am I naming fish ?
I'm down for a trip to Menagerie practically any weekend whether or not I intend to buy fish, just cause I love the store. (and I don't get out much so it's an outing for me lol) I'm also down to pick Andrew and Kat up on the way. You're buyin the coffee tho :)
They discontinued the newletter, the updates are on their page.
www.menageriepetshop.com (http://www.menageriepetshop.com) No fish shipments this week but you never know what to expect from the local breeder stock. Always some surprise.

Just a note: It IS my mission to swing as many people as possible over to the South American cichlid side and the planted side as I can. BUT, we have to get all different strains then the other for future fry trading lol.
2 years ago so many were breeding SA dwarf cichlids around here it wasn't funny, and awesome quality too. Now that i need some variety there are hardly any. They all have african cichlids now, it's just a little overdone as well as in most of the fishstores too.
Time for sleep, stayed up alot later then I wanted. Have a good night all

Dafishman, a trip the menagerie sounds fun! I need to time it when I need some plants, because they have the best and cheapest stuff.
Kate, you can get to the store without having to worry about streetcar tracks. Parking is a pain in that area sometimes. If memory recalls, there is a coffee shop across the street.

Got some stuff done Monday night.
Removed mopani cave.
Removed snail shells.
Deep vacced area where cave was.
Scubbed cave - removing moss strands & most of the bba.
Put cave back on less angle then before.
7.5g water change in the process.
2 caps flourish excel
Planted:
Crypt Wendtii 'Tropica' & 'Mi-Oya'
E. ozelot and E. Rubin
Moved a couple other plants.
No attempt at scaping yet, crypts were in the bag 2 days, swords a day, just wanted to get them all in as it was late.
Good chance the crypts will melt not looking so hot atm.
Nitrate test tonight = 30.
Water quality is almost there !

Hello miss christmas elf.
Yup I was up pretty late doing that stuff. Had to get done the crypts were in the bag 2 days, the swords 1. I could procrasinate no more !
Tonight I cleaned the glass, took the pics, then sat down for the first time in ages, and just relaxed for a few and watched the fish swimming around thru the plants. Then realized how much I missed that. 'Missy' even came out, almost black and camoflauged in color swimming under the sword and crypt leaves, such a sneak lol.
Glad I could be a good influence on you. That'll be $5.00 please :)
Did you see the photos yet Mel ?

You guys work so hard on your tanks and I hardly get water changes done!!!! I like watching the tanks to and when I do I think of what I have to do to make them nicer but I never do it.

Hi Chrissy :)
I'm just catching up on a year of neglect. There was alot to be done !
Bit more to do still too.
"I like watching the tanks"
Watching the fish is relaxing, so nice to have fish again !
"when I do I think of what I have to do to make them nicer but I never do it"
I have to fight procrastination (and distraction) and just force myself to do it.
Even a little bit done at a time is better then none. It adds up.
Once it's shaped up again I can go back to water changes :)

A bratt with a test kit is still a bratt. A bratt is a bratt is a bratt and that's that.
Of course I KNEW that you would find the problem via testing and only mentioned a cycle to scare you into doing it.

I think I'll come over too and visit both of you bratts. Get the rum & eggnog ready.
Hey Mr. Dafishman, you're going to get some snails that came from my snails' snails! I feel closer to you already. Such a warm & fuzzy feeling....
Or is that from the rum & eggnog?
 KIDDING! Haven't bought any yet this year, maybe tomorrow.

50 million snailies is too much Kat ! I only need 1 purple brig snailie lol.
(kahlua and coffee is also GOOD !)
Please don't ban me Miss Melody. I behaved for an hour at least. I will have a descendant of a descendant of your snail which binds us warm and fuzzy. If you visit us me and Kat (and we'll kidnap Andrew when he goes out to grab the morning paper just to create extra controversy in richmond hill) can take you to the fishstores we know. Just bring lotsa breather bags.
I LOVE EGGNOG SERIOUSLY. I'M CHECKING THE STORE TOMORROW.
I guess I won't shake this bratt thing too easily.... and with 2 t's at that.
Does that make me a worse bratt then a brat ? *sigh
Have a good night both of you :)

I have always spelled bratt that way. I tell the Americans that its the Canadian spelling, so ssshhhh....
Okie dokie, I'll be right there. Make it Eggnog LIGHT, its much better as a mix... and all of the other alcoholic beverages can join us too. It would be great! We could make fun of the nieghbour with the barking dog and if she complains, we'll say things like "We changed our minds. You can let the dog bark as long as you shut up."
I'm not sure that Andrew is ready for the three of us in the same room, but he'll get used to it.
You really shouldn't joke about this you know, I do fly free of charge and could be on your doorstep by tomorrow night :twitcy: .

I'll start cleaning........ sometime..... soon.... butnotrightnow.

I will do it when you least expect it... which I guess would be now....lol. I should have, flying is safer than driving and for some reason I'm a car accident magnet.
One of these days I'll wander by I'm sure, no doubt with big Brother in tow because he thinks everyone on the Internet has GOT to have maniac potential or they wouldn't socialize online. I tried to clear things up for him by saying "But I'm one of those people who socializes online".
"My point exactly" says my dear Brother.

Menagerie is an addiction... Yes there is a Timmies right down the block from the store... I ususally hit there and then the store... occasionally I hit the store first and offer to do a coffee run for the staff. I just grabbed a pair of apistos from there today. I keep hoping to go in there somethime when the females outnumber the males as he will sell individual females at that time only and I have this one lonely guy...

If I remember correctly it is an Agazzi Double Red
DaFishMan
Dec 9th 2007, 11:22 AM
You mean the ones in the 'mixed' red tank ? reds and double reds in there.
You could put a red, double red, or even a regular aggie in no probs :)
BA steeles has some nice aggies atm too which is where I got my pair.
not sure if they'd sell singly either but I may also want another f/m to make a trio.
I have a post up in the Club section if you'd like to add any info to my questions on TWAS would be much
appreciated. The more SA cichlid nuts the better :) Are you going to the next meet ?
