I want my male BN calico to hopefully connect with a female albino longfin. How many of total plecos can I put together in a bare bottom 33 gallon tank? Hydro 5 sponge filter and a mini AC. There are also 7 juli cories in there.

Thanks everyone.:hello:

The Cories could be a problem with the plecos as they enjoy eating eggs (as I have foud out :( ) However BN are the guppy of the pleco world. You will need a cave or 3 for them to hid out in. Once you have the male and female in the tank don't do any water changes for a few weeks and slowly allow the water level to drop. I have heard of some breeders even removing a bit of water every day to simulate the dry season. After a few weeks. Do a massive water change (50% min) and allow the temp of your tank to drop to about 74F and start feeding your plecs meaty foods to condition the female and provide her with protien for the eggs she is hopefully carrying. Hopefully after a bit your male will trap the female in a cave and the spawing will happen. That is it in a very simple nutshell. There are good articles on Planet Catfish about plecos and their breeding.

I personally would only keep two females and one male in a tank together. If there are more than one male in the tank they will fight at breeding time. They can harm each other and one could possibly be killed. This is advice I received when I started breeding.

Thank you, you two. I can move the cories, I think, to a 29 gallon which has pleco fry in there? They are a month old, eating well and growing well. I need to split up the fry to two tanks so if they are compatible with the cories, I will go that route.

Personally I don't think corys would be a problem in there as bristlenose eggs are too large for them to eat. I too have spawned bristlenose with corys within the same tank and never had a problem. Corys seem to tend to themselves and be quite dosile tankmates.

I've been lucky so far. Calico fry, silver tip fry, and now a Dad is sitting on another spawn and this spawn is in the 90 gallon community tank. I've tried taking some pics but so far, they haven't turned out great. I'll keep trying though!

And Slipstream, there is always shipping when the weather warms up.
