View Full Version : Has Canada Post Changed Their 2 Day Xpresspost?

I just went to calculate a shipping rate 2 day Xpresspost and noticed a few things.
-2 day Xpresspost is now 3 days.
-They are even more expensive then they were before the New Year, a package that would have cost me about $28.00 to ship 2 day is now $48.75 2 day business priority. Are they kidding?
- 2 business priority courier is replacing overnight? Its the only option I now see.
Jeeze can someone say 'Stick em up?'
Priority Courier (http://www.canadapost.ca/personal/offerings/priority_courier/can/default-e.asp) is now 2 days courier
Xpresspost (http://www.canadapost.ca/personal/offerings/xpresspost/can/default-e.asp) is now 3 days
Regular Parcel (http://www.canadapost.ca/personal/offerings/regular_parcel/can/default-e.asp) is now 8 days as opposed to 5

Yikes! Sounds like they really don't want the business. At those rates, and with those options, people will be going with the courier companies. (Of course, I haven't checked to see if they too have increased their rates... probably will if CP has gone up.)

That's bad news! I guess they mucked up enough packages that the chickens have now come home to roost.

It was always 3-day Xpress, it just took 2 days to some places. Same with overnight - not all places can be delivered to overnight. The rates went up, but not quite that much....lol.

That's strange then because I specifically remember it stating 2 day Xpresspost & Overnight Courier. Now it states 2 days business express courier & 3 day Xpresspost, that I am positive of. Weird but I feel better knowing that I was looking at new couriers half the darn day in a complete panic.

I've always known it as 3-day Xpress... I even ask for it that way at the post office. Actually, the fine print says it can take up to five days, so I've always complained about it being false advertising to call it 3-day Xpress.
Overnight courier usually means delivery before 10am and 2-day usually gets there the next day too, but its delivered later in the day. Its much cheaper with couriers to get 2-day and you usually get overnight - found that out through a trans-shipper. I don't remember if Canada Post called it overnight before or not, but that might also explain the change. It would bring them into standard delivery lingo.

Because of the shipping problems I had last fall with Canada Post, I actually have printouts of the detailed tracking info of 2 packages sent from BC to Ontario which stated the 'standard delivery dates' as follows:
Xpresspost: item mailed Oct 29, Standard Delivery Date: Oct 31
Priority Courier: item mailed Nov 13, Standard Delivery Date: Nov 14
The XpressPost actually took a week, the Priority Courier took 6 days. Canada Post reimbursed me for the shipping in both cases. (but of course not for the DOA's  )
Out of curiosity, I just checked the Canada Post Rate Calculator for the same delivery today. As it is a delivery point near a major centre, it still says:
Priority Courier: Next business day
XpressPost: 2 business days
Note, however, that Canada Post has always stated that delivery to non-major centres can take longer than the 'Standard Delivery' time. In most cases that's an additional day, so maybe that's the reason for the 3-day XpressPost. :Dunno: And then, of course, there is the 'fine print'.

I've never had it quote less than three days to Ontario. I can get as far as Saskatoon in 2 days and sometimes overnight to Alberta. It definitly takes longer if you're not in a major center or if its a post office box. They also don't count the day its shipped, although you can get it out if you beat their cut-off time.
I'm going to try shipping via courier through work - its $12 or something like that, since we have an account. You can get awesome rates if you get an account with them apparently, but I'm sure there's a minimum volume requirement before they'll deal.

Today when I went to check rates they were back to looking using the regular verbage I am used to. Wish I would have took a screen shot!

My mom sent some packages out this Christmas and in at least one case xpresspost was slower than regular mail to the same destination. I sent out xpresspost earlier last year that was returned for no reason. My postage was refunded, but the explanation never really made sense. I wish that our national carrier was dependable but I have lost faith. If I really need a package delivered on a deadline, I'll be going elsewhere.

Go online to CP and get a "Venture One" card. You can register yourself as a "business" (no BIN number required) and take advantage of lower rates, expedited service and online shipping... Best thing I ever did. If you would like further explantion, PM me for my phone number Katalyst... I overnight packages from Barrie to the GTA for 8 bucks (ish)....

Actually Andrew, I haven't had any problems since but I will hold off sending your fish as agreed... we don't want to tempt fate.
