View Full Version : Water Movement & CO2

When I have tiny fry, such as eggers, I usually only trickle in the water movement for the first couple of weeks via loosely pinched airline. I have found that they do far better this way at first and it avoids filter munching. I do the water changes in these tanks several times/week so filtration isn't a big deal.

This would result, I presume, in more C02 in the water column. Would such a set-up be enough for plants that say, benefit from C02 as opposed to actually requiring it? I was thinking of having a permanent fry tank with good lighting and lotsa plants U C. Since there are some that do better with C02 and I don't do injections, I figured it might give me the opportunity to try one or two species. I know I can't have those that actually require it, but maybe those that benefit would do better in such an environment? Fast growing varieties would also help keep the environment clean and that's what I usually use.

Whatcha think? Any suggestions for such a set-up? I figure Najas Grass would do well in there for starters, since they don't like water movement much.

A lot of plants will do well in that tank Melody, some hygroplilia difformis would do well,( wisteria) its a very bushy plant, nice lime green and a good quick grower, obviously slower without the addition of c02. Some of the plants wont grow well at all without c02, but you could always research a particular plant you are interested in!
Dont forget i still owe you a bunch of plants, i have some put aside for you, a big Java fern, a piece of a huge anubias, and some stem plants, I just have to get back to work to fund the shipping, i havnt had much work since before xmas.

You owe me plants? LOL I don't track this stuff you know - it all comes out in the waterchange. i only fret if I happen to owe someone a trade. Sounds like a nice collection and I'm thinkin' its in my best interest to wait and let you gather more anyway  . I'll have to get a heatpack to you before you ship, if mine ever arrive  .

You really should head closer to the hub, but that's easier said then done. It would be a good thing to do before the youngster gets into school though. Very stressful, seasonal work. I bet you could find something else for the Winters - the job market is wide open and more companies are training. Much nicer to work for yourself, I'll give you that. Things will pick up, keep the faith.
