DON'T WORRY! HE'S ALL BETTER NOW!!!
I just wanted to share what happened...

One day, I noticed his one of his pelvic fins looked shorter than the other. I thought maybe someone took a bite at him. Then the fin rays began to look kind of white and fuzzy at the tips. I dosed the tank with Melafix for 7 days, then did a water change. It looked the same as before the treatment, so I did the Melafix routine again. After that, the fin rot had spread to his other pelvic fin!

Then I bought Jungle Fungus Eliminator. I was a little freaked out that I would have to use the whole bottle of scary-looking yellow powder in my 70 gallon tank, so I cut the dose in half. I mixed it up in a large cup of aquarium water before pouring it in the tank. It bubbled madly in the cup, turned the whole aquarium yellow, and I was nervous for four days. I did a water change and the butterfly fish was looking better. I dosed them AGAIN, now that I saw that they could take it, to be sure that the problem was gone for good.

The butterfly fish's fins are absolutely clear now and he happily darts about eating crickets again. Phew!:notworthy:

Now let's see if the fins grow back...

THIS PHOTO WAS TAKEN THE DAY I NOTICED SOMETHING WAS WRONG.
( I'd take another photo to show the length of his pelvic fins now, if I had a better camera! It probably took 50 tries to get this ONE!)

Glad to hear he has recovered. It's aAlways scarey treating the tank with something new but hey, it worked! I'll keep my fingers crossed that his fin grows back. If and when you do get a current pic of him, we'd love to see it.

Woo hoo!!! I think his pelvic fin rays ARE GROWING BACK!!!
The ends look longer, although still very thin and wispy... but they were stubs before, so this is promising!!!
I LOVE THAT FISH! (And he loves his crickets!)

...Still trying to take a photo, but my camera's so not up to the challenge!
...Yes, Amaruq, I did treat the whole tank. I did it that way for two reasons: 1. To make sure the bacteria/fungus was all gone; 2. To avoid stressing the fish by removing him (he's kind of shy).
