Hi,
I have a female guppy with some opaque area on the tail. the tail fin is fine. The fish is pretty small and was close to transparent like my other guppies. but it now looks opaque between the body and the tail fin. She still eats and swims but seems to hang out by herself more. I saw Ich at the fish store and this does not look like salt at all. It looks opaque and slightly fuzzy. But more opaque only. Any ideas?
thanks

It could be a fungus.

Yes, I'd say so too. Fungus can come from an injury, stress or a bacterial infection. Lotsa waterchanges and maybe some aquarium salt if all of the tank occupants can tolerate it well. If that doesn't work you can try Rid Ich Plus, which treats parasites and fungus. I rarely have to use it for fungus though - usually salt and extra clean conditions gets rid of it. Stay away from the antibiotics that say they'll treat fungus.
Good for you for keeping a close eye on your fish and picking up the change. Good luck!

I did not know Rid Ich plus treats parasites and fungus. Learn some thing new everyday, I thought it was just for ich.

I guess that's the 'plus' part...lol. The best part about that stuff is a little goes a long way and its effective.

That is good. It is good to always have something on hand that treats more than one thing.

It has never effected my bio and its very gentle as med's go. Be sure to find the root of the problem if you can though, or it will come back. Make sure its Rid-Ich PLUS, as Rid-Ich does not cover everything.

Hello,
I actually ended up buying jungle fungus clear. I took the carbon filter cartridge out of my filter which leaves only a black sponge thing and some ceramic rings in the filter. How long should I leave the carbon cartridge out for? The guppies are actually doing quite a bit better. I tried salt and increasing temp but that didn't work. This works but the water is green now. I am afraid if I leave the filter out too long the fish will die. What should I do next and when? thanks for the help.

Do whatever the box says to make sure its totally gone. Water changes and a good dose of carbon will remove the med's. You may have to change the carbon a time or two as the med's will 'fill' it.
