Club Ideas

Since we are gaining more and more members across Canada, I thought it might be useful to exchange ideas that are used in our clubs - from events, to fundraisers to entertainment.

This was sparked by a visit the the Greater Seattle Aqarium Society (http://www.gsas.org/) website. They do Fish Bingo, 'FISHO', which has to be fun. ::D:

The VAHC (http://www.fishopolis.com/vahc/) does a gift exchange thing at Christmas that's a lot of fun I hear (Santa is even a CAC member!). Gifts can be plants, livestock, new or used, and its based on the 'trade in/trade up' concept.

What does your club do that's interesting? Or have you seen something great at other clubs?

I believe it is Kitchener that has Q & A period at all their meetings that goes over really well. We tried it, but it fizzled for us.
Not at a meeting, but something at our club loves is a member profile in each newsletter.
We have guest speakers from the area clubs. One of our own members did a slide show of his fish that he bred. Plus pics of others he has kept over the years.
Workshop evening tables set up and people demonstrating how to breed brine shrimp, microworm cultures(have them make their own will watching). How to repair tanks. etc. Slide show on how to prepare fish food.
Or an auction evening just like your meeting auction but bigger, advertise a bit and ask members to bring extras.

Great ideas! The VAHC has the question period. Love the fish food preparation idea too - you could even have samples for that one.
