As I wait and wait for the email to tell me my dwarf crayfish have been shipped, a knock on the this morning and my friendly FedEx delivery person is here. :red_dance:

Inside the box is a whole bunch of shredded newspaper and 10 little bags of individually bagged and marked dwarf crays.

I figured while they were warming up, I'd send off an email to let my shipper know they arrived. In my inbox was the shipping notice telling me the crays were shipped on Dec 5.
6 days to get here, not bad for the 1 to 3 day service that was paid for. Yes, I checked the receipt, they were shipped 1 to 3 day service.

Since I didn't get notice they were coming, I had to scramble to get some tanks set up. Considering how crunched for equipment I was, I think I did alright.

His and Hers Crayfish tanks. Yes the shipping bags are still on the floor, I'll get them picked up before my wife gets home.

Some pictures of the girls

A couple of pictures of the boys, the first one is not a great shot, but it gives a good idea how small the are. The pipe is 1 inch inside diameter.

They really are small, I have a couple of Amano shrimp that would rival them for size.

Once they get accustomed to their new home and I get time to set them up a little better, I'll start introducing the males to the females to see if I can get some little ones running around.

My wife will be home soon so I gotta go clean up. Be back later.

Wow - for them to have survived long after the heatpack must have run out is awesome! They must have been hungry. Young creatures sure do ship better. I'm glad they arrived alive.

The post office and the couriers all have this tiny print that says 3-day can take up to five business days. To me that's false advertising - we pay for it to be a shorter delivery time after all. However, they all do it.

Hey, that's too cool. I've always wanted crayfish as a kid. I'll have to live my crayfish cravings through your pics. Thanks!

Well, if I have any success with breeding, you too could live the dream ! :D

Cool crayfish! Glad they survived the journey. Remember to keep those tanks covered. The only crayfish I ever had (not sure what type he was... it was 25 years ago) decided one night to venture out of the tank to explore. I found him the next morning (almost stepped on him:eek: ) down the hall at the other end of the house (about 60 ft from the tank).

I find it odd that these little critters are not more popular, they're awesome. Lotsa color, activity and attitude.

Watching them is really amusing, if they're near the glass and I get close, up comes those tiny pinchers and out comes the 'Watch it buddy' attitude !

LOL They sound very amusing. I think its probably like the shrimp & snail thing - they weren't around so people didn't get into them. Then it was a matter of not knowing much about them, etc. Once they caught on, everyone wanted them. The hobby has its 'fads' like everything else I suppose.

The best way to get people into something is to talk about it, I find. So keep posting about them, write articles, post pic's & bring them in for show & tell :D .

One of my little crays had their first moult today, at first I thought I'd killed one already.

When I removed it, I realized what it was.

I'm gonna have to get a bigger home for them though, 5 gal tanks are just to hard to keep clean and stable.

LOL You sound like a proud Daddy when his baby takes her first step. Awesome, they must be happy then.

I couldn't agree more on the smaller tanks - learned that one the hard way. You could always divide a 15-20G 'long'. Put box filters on each side - cheap and versatile, won't suck up little ones.:D
