Hey everyone....So what i'm wondering is this...What kinda deals do the LFS's have for boxing day?? Never been to one yet but this will be the first year...There is a stand tank combo at al's that i'm after....they put these on huge discounts???
Or if anyone else know's who has the best deals and what they have had on in the past it would be appreciated!!

Thanks

Funny you should mention that - I'm starting a boxing day feature in the merchant section tonight. I'm going around getting inside information and sneak previews just for CAC Members! :secret:As members hear of more sales, they can post them too. Then on the big day you can just print it out...lol. But seriously, it will be handy to have a directory of the sales all in one place so you can map out your strategy.

As for deals, there's always lots of really good ones, lowest prices you'll see all year by far. HUGE discounts, 'buy one get one free' deals.... livestock and dry goods are all dirt cheap.

Last year I got a decent deal on a UV Sterilizer at J&L Aquatics. It ended up being only $10 more than the lower wattage model.

Don't forget the small stores either - fantastic deals on quality livestock and very competitive pricing without the huge line-ups.

I always go to big al's to stock up on water conditioner on boxing day and food stuff. I think two litre water conditioner was like 20 bucks or something. Usually it goes pretty fast. I hear that king ed has good sales too!

25% off all hardware is pretty commonplace around the lower mainland. The line-ups start when they have 50% off livestock. Some stores will have blow-out prices for certain select items, so keep your eyes open. Melody's right, the big line-ups are the big name stores.

I'll keep an eye on Melody's Boxing Day updates, I'll try to pass anything along that I see as well.

Buy & Sell may also advertise specials and blow-out deals.

Not necessary to go just on Boxing Day if you're buying common run of the mill stuff. Some Boxing Day sales last a week, so plan accordingly.

Ah, good point, I think most of them do go longer, its just a matter of what's left.

I've already got the inside scoop on one store having 50% off all freshwater livestock :secret: , I guess I best get cracking on that Boxing Day thread.

I always forget the Buy & Sell, thanks for the reminder & for sharing the deals!

I think traditionally at Big Al's live stock is all 50% off or something. Thats what I remember... I"m not sure if it's a traditional thing.

Seems to me that all of BA's big tanks were slashed to the ground last year, but I think it was the tank only. Unfortunately I've learned not to buy their livestock at any price and speaking to them about it does nadda. The tanks were a good sale though - lots of people bought them.

Here is the BA's flyer from last year:

Yea! Whoo Hoo Boxing Day link!! :notworthy:

Jonesy, BA had a very decent Easter sale last year, picked up a tank, stand, glass top, lighting, heater, filter combo. Switch out the HOB power filter for a canister that was the lowest price I've ever seen, Boxing Day included. So unless you need a tank asap, I'd avoid the line-ups the 1st day and go later on that week, or sometime in the Spring.

The 65/66 gallon tanks always seem to be on sale every Boxing Day. A breeder aquaintance of mine, seems to pick up one every year.

Got some great deals last year, and am looking forward to doing the rounds of all the stores this year.

would someone be so kind to post the ad when it comes out?

BA has some nice corydoras in for the holiday. Nothing fancy for plants though.

If anyone do decide to get fish from a known parasite/sickness infested place, at least have a quaratine tank and a couple medications off hand so you can start dosing at the first sign of trouble (usually within a few hours if you know what you are looking for).

I prefer keeping melafix, primafix, prazipro, and quickcure.

Good advice. I routinely quarantine in Melafix and salt if the fish can take it - the more bacteria I get off them the better. Survival rates improved when I started doing that, but its nothing close to scientific and very well could be coincidence.

Always bleach the net you used on them too or better yet, have one net that you use only in your q-tank. Thoroughly wash your hands before moving to the next tank. It may seem extreme, but one drop of water from an infected tank has been known to devastate another. In this day of superbugs, its twice as crucial to be careful.

King Ed's Boxing Week Sale (I wasn't allowed to post in the official thread because I'm not privileged  ), but I digress  :

I hadn't thought of that - we made the sponsors a special user group so we don't get spam posts, but I wanted people to participate in that thread. That was brilliant. Y'all should give me an award for that one  . I also forgot that it was a member only forum, for which I was thoroughly beaten upon when I posted a link to it in another forum. The Holidays sure bring out the best in some people  .

Anyways, thanks for posting it, Mr. hp10BII, I'll take it over there. My apologies for the inconvenience.

I went there a few days ago. Basically the owner is closing out his store and he is clearing out everything in the store. Price is pretty low. Fish, filters, tanks, etc.......... There are also birds and little mammals too ;)
