I think you should make a sweet chat room like http://www.fishforums.com/forum/ has.

It will let people obtain the information they need quicker and if your worried about the number of posts I quote you saying

We believe in quality not quantityand a chat room knocks a rank up 3-4 spots! & is a great quality! so it will also be better known. Please put some consideration in this superb idea.

,Thanks

Thanks for the suggestion. We discussed a chatroom here already and unfortunately we are unable to staff one 24/7. It may happen in the future but for now we'll be focusing on the forum/auction.

I know this has been mentioned 1000 times but I really think we need one asap.. some times people (like myself) wanna come on here for a few minutes to get answers really quickly but sometimes when people post A new thread it could take hours for replys! I think we need to take a chat room into consideration..

is there anyone who feels this way?

I have moved your comment to the existing thread. The status hasn't changed but we will let you know if it does.

I've never encountered a problem I wasn't able to fix without research and cruising the forums luckily. Like Melody stated its hard to have people who volunteer their time to be here 24/7. I know of several aquarium based forums who have chatrooms that are rarely used at all so in my humble opinion its not something that is an absolute necessity.

I don't understand why it would have to be staffed 24/7. Very few chatrooms have staff in them most of the time. Aslong as only members (not guests) can go into chatrooms, I don't think you'll encounter any problems. Everyone here is nice. Also, if you do want the chatroom staffed most of the time, you can just give some trustworhty people mod powers (only over the chat).

I find I join forums that do have chatrooms more so, it helps me get info quicker and it's nice to get to know people (posts allow you to get to know people, but not as easily/as much as a chatroom does).

Just my two cents.

People here are nice because we don't allow not nice people...lol...a chatroom would be no different and therefore it would have to be moderated. We allow people like you who are under legal age and we take that responsibility seriously. If we had a chatroom that wasn't monitored, the age limit would have to be adult.

I have yet to see a question sit here unanswered for any length of time and 90+% of the time nobody is in forum chat rooms. If there was, that person would have to be able to answer your question and if you can't find it on Google, what are the chances of finding an advanced expert sitting around in a chatroom? You would have a better chance of logging into an IM and asking your fishkeeping friends the question.

We appreciate the input, but a chatroom is not feasible at this time.

Staffing of a chat room is a big responsibility, you have to have someone monitoring 24 hours a day. If things get out of hand it becomes a thankless job for mods(volunteers) to maintain and keep peaceful. Some adults can become very childish!

Amen to that!

I am not childish,,,,at my age it's called excentric..

As far as a chat room goes, I really don't think its necessary to have one to make a good forum. Plus the fact that Jay and Melody are already working extra to have this one for us...

I think we should all give them a big "THANK YOU FOR ALL YOUR HARD WORK".

You have to be a certain age to be eccentric? I didn't get the memo. :wideeyed:

Thanks for your comments. It's our pleasure to work towards the positive & pleasant environment that we found sadly lacking in the majority of other forums and that continues to be our focus. Our moderators work hard to maintain that and most also contribute to the forum community in other ways. We appreciate their efforts and the support of the community. It appears we're not alone in wanting a nice place to talk about fish. Seems a simple enough request until you go looking for it....lol.... so we made our own little fish tank on the Web.

Chatrooms are a whole lot of work for a whole lot of nothing, to sum it up. The moderating, added expense, maintaining the software... there's much more to it than meets the eye. Even if it wasn't moderated, who do you think will have to handle all of the situations that come up? He said/she said and software issues.... and what if a minor hooks up with a predator in our chat? That thought is unacceptable to us.

We only have so much free time and frankly, it's maxed out with the forum & auction. Can you understand why we lack enthusiasm for such an endeavor when there will be very little, if any, benefit to our members?

Thanks for the suggestions and we wish you all the luck in the world if you decide to start one up.

Ok, I can see a chatroom wont be coming anytime soon ...

But to answer your question, most chatrooms are logged. That means admins can access what people said in them a month ago, for example. So that solves any he said/she said issues.

I already have one lol

I understand you guys are busy, just thought I'd share my 2 cents.

They still have to ref the arguements!!! I think they do enough now and if they did to much they might not have as much time to keep it nice here.

Thats why you give somebody, or a couple people Chat staff or something like that.. So their ONLY job is to mod the chat. :)

Well Cory Lover said he already has a chat room, so why not just use his? That way Jay and Melody don't have to do anything. I am sure(kind of anyway) that Jay and Melody could some how fit a link to the chat room in here somewhere.

Well they have to do a few things, keep track of the forum here, take care of the auction page and the oh lets see, few hundred other little things that pop up when you keep a webpage and forum...

I would be willing to make a new chatroom specifically for CAC. I would just create a java chat and all they would have to do is place a link on their site, and when someone clicks the link, the chatroom pops up.

If they don't want the liability of it on their site, I would offer if people wanted to chat to go to my site (no, you don't have to register).

If no one likes those ideas, thats totally find, and I understand. Just thought I'd say them if anyone was interested.

We couldn't endorse something that we didn't control. So why aren't you using your chat? I don't quite get that part. If it's something your membership wants to have and you want one too, fill your boots.

As for more mod's, we're very picky about who we bring on and finding someone to suit, let alone several someone's to monitor 24/7, ain't gonna happen.

Anyways, thanks again for your input but it isn't feasible at this time.

To answer your question, I do on ocassions, but since it is a small membership it is very odd there are actually people in it.
