View Full Version : Flirty Octopus

In my day, a flirty male octopus was one who seemed to have way too many hands  . It would seem that the Octopus has earned that comparison to a certain degree, contrary to what we once thought. Our previous conclusions were based on lab observations. Well duh, that doesn't exactly bring out the romance in a creature!

They sound nicer than the octopus males I knew  .
Are the mating rituals of marine creatures more romantic than your average "If it's female..." Guppy?

It's truly amazing what different species go through in order to mate. ::D:
I had heard at one time that Blue Herons mated for life, and for a few years
was always a little sad when i saw a lone one standing in the back of a favorite fishing hole of mine.
Turns out they're not that "faithful"

-For any anglers out there-
please fish "barbless"
i know first hand what it feels like to be struck with a barbed hook, and it ain't fun.

Good point! I've only poked a finger while tying flies and that was bad enough!
I have to sit in wonder at all of the uproar over seals and other cute animals, when piles of fish with injured mouths lay there 'smothering' without a second glance. I come from a long line of fisherpeoples  and I have no problem with it, but I do have a problem with those who have selective bleeding hearts. Only cute animals are a concern? More like cute animals make better posters so certain groups can get more money. Total left field - I get a little tired of this seal hunt business on occasion.
It does point out that fish are complex creatures too and maybe they deserve more respect, even the ugly ones. But the activists will walk right past the fish isle to take a picture of a bunny.

The male fusing his body to the female, I'd say that's total committment. :wideeyed:
