Want to know the TDS and nitrates of your tank?

Plant some sunset hygro in it. If the leaves begin to crinkle your TDS is low. If the leaves that are close to the surface are still green and not pink than your nitrates are high.

This is only a very rough estimate.

Changing substrate? Emptying a tank? Use a 4' by 3/4" diameter hose to suck up the old sand or gravel. Fast and clean.

:idea: My brother got me a uninterupted power supply for my computer one christmas and I use that with my fry tank so they don't get cold if the power goes off. Its easy and small and doesn't make much noise. I don't have to worry even if I am not home!!!::D:

Most aquatic mosses are in fact terrestrial mosses. I have had great success(2 months in and growing) with mosses picked right outside in vancouver, no co2 and inadequate light (less than 2 watts per gallon)
