Hi everyone, I'm new to this forum, I was referred by Katalyst on the GTAAquarium forum.
A week ago I purchased a pair of Albino Pearscale angelfish at an annual club auction. They are currently in my q-tank. They aren't very lively, mainly float around with their heads pointing up. When I put food into the tank, they don't move much more and I have seen them eat but it appears they are either blind or severely visually impaired.
I have clipped some food to the side of the tank for them, I also have a feeding ring I'm going to put in.
Does anyone have any experience with Albino Pearlscales?

Ive kept a few.. and like any albino they dont seem to see as well as their normally colored relatives. You said they are swimming nose up? Im a little concerned about that. Albino pearlscales can be a little finnicky. Is the Q tank cycled? If not what measures are you taking to make sure the water is spotless?
Angels are hunters. I doubt if they arent feeling well tthat they will eat out of a feeding ring. Can you find some baby guppies somewhere? Keep the lights off and the water sparkling is the best you can do.

The q-tank is 20g, mopani, java moss and horwort, it's been running since February with guppies which now have a new home so no fry. Sponge filter. I do 25% w/c once weekly & vacuum. I can do twice weekly if need be. Lights are off all day, only on for 3 hours after work. Tank mates are juvenile rams which stay at the bottom of the tank and a pair of gouramis. I think they've done quite well since they spent the better part of a day in a bag at the auction!
Keep in mind I haven't put the feeding ring in yet. I have seen them eat out of the water column but they're very slow.
I have Seachem Cichlid Trace (http://www.seachem.com/products/product_pages/CichlidTrace.html) on hand but haven't put it in this particular tank.

I moved the pair to our 90g community tank after returning home from work. They were quite shocked by the change but after an hour they're different fish! Swimming around, more confident, it's like night and day! We have 5 smaller angels in this tank and so far, they're playing nicely with each other. ::D: I'm so relieved to see them being curious and moving around!

Great news! I hope we are hearing about their antics for a long time to come!

:Welcome: Good to hear they've perked up. I wonder if the social aspect of having other angels in the tank helped them adjust.

Sorry for the tremendous lag, I thought I would get notifications but didn't.
I've moved the albino pearlscales into the big 90g tank and they're doing great! They're slower than the other angels at catching food but manage to get their fill as they're keeping their shape quite nicely.
I've added 4 chocolate angels since and everyone is doing well so far.
Many thanks for all your input and replies!

Nothing goes together better than milk & chocolate  , they would look awesome together.
So you're hooked on Angels - I can see why. Will you be breeding them?

How did I miss this? I'm so glad you made it over here! Miss McLovin' is also starting to become interested in livebearers so naturally I had to send her here!

Thanks for the update. Glad to hear the angels are doing well.
As for notifications, the reason you didn't get any is that the default setting is 'Do Not Subscribe'. To get notifications, just click on User CP in the menu, choose Edit Options and in the second box down you will see Automatic Thread Subscription Mode, chose the frequency with which you wish to be notified, then click Save Changes at the bottom of the screen.

I'm really hooked on apple snails atm, who knew they had so much character?!
And Miss Kate is going to hook me up with some wild type livebearers, just don't tell my husband! ::D:

Dear Mr. McLovin,
Your wife is in complete control, don't worry.
Under our control that is...
It's not the hobbyists fault, it's the hobby's fault. There's so much out there to experience and when we do get fish/creatures, we want to talk about them. Then we're so enthusiastic about it, other people want some too. It's a wicked circle!
Some wild-types come with a higher purpose though - there are far too many that no longer exist in the wild or won't for long. If I accomplish nothing else in the Livebearer circle, I'd like to get the threatened species established in Canada. Non-livebearers too for that matter. We have an entire country of tank space and as a whole we could really make a difference in the number kept in captivity.
