Well not all his fin but a fair chunk as seen in the pic.He has never had any fin rot issues and has only chewed his tail once and that was whilst being shipped in from Thailand.
He is very heavy finned but they are normally in good condition so this is a mystery to me.
Does anyone know what this might be?

I love your betta!!!!! I have a number of them....is it possible there is stress in the tank?

Maybe a fish is picking on him when you aren't looking?

I found with the bettas it is best to house them by themselves to keep them in optium shape and color. They stress very easily and are just not a great community fish.

More info please. What size tank, filtration, temperature, water parameters, etc? It's not too clear from the pic but it could be fin rot.

If that's the piece of fin in the picture, it looks very well formed from what I can tell - could he have caught it on something? They can even get caught in filtration if it's too strong. What kind of filter are you using?

Hes in a 25 litre tank , with a corner filter , water changes are 50% once a week with well aged ( 1 week ) water with Sure Start dechlorinator added .
Heated to 26C and only 1 cory in with him , there are only live plants and a terracotta urn in with him.
Yeah I had a look at the torn fin and it seems to have no disease but I cant see where he would tear the fin.

They like to wedge themselves into a spot to sleep, so maybe something like that happened. If he seems to be acting fine to you, I wouldn't be concerned. Extra clean environment & a bit of salt to make sure he heals fine wouldn't hurt. I hope it's just one of those things - he's a beaut!

Thank you .. Ive just checked him and hes eating / flaring just fine .Ive already added salt and Indian Almond Leaf so Ill watch him for signs of finrot then treat if necessary.

Hi and :Welcome: Sorry I can't offer any insight but it's good to hear he's eating and flaring as usual. He is definitely a beauty. Keep us posted on how he's doing.
