I'm a hobbyist and a business person. When I thought of this thread it suited both of my personalities ;) .
I am sure that retailers would love to know what hobbyists really want them to carry. So here's your voice hobbyists - tell 'em what you want. This is where they'll be hanging out so you'll have their full attention.
My demands are simple enough, or they look that way on paper (screen) anyway.
My top request is health / quality. I will be happy to pay more for it too.
Its also time to expand your idea of the bread & butter fish. EVERYONE has those. If you want to set yourself apart, why not go just a bit fancier? Longfin versions or any elaborate finnage is a great start, such as Lyretail Swordtails and Hifin Platy's. Strains of Guppies instead of average mixes - every store in the States sells out of Halfblack Yellow Guppies, for example.
Keep up with the trends - why don't we have a better selection of the easier fancy Shrimp & exotic snails? Or some of the fancier strains of BN Plecos? Why is it always the same three Cory species? I would dearly love to put my money into local stores rather than going to the trouble and expense of getting the more unusual stock from the States.
Let us know when you have something that is uncommon - post it here and/or place ads elsewhere. It seems that hobbyists just happen upon these rarities and half of us would have purchased the creature had we known it was there.
Become known for having healthy oddities and you've got the world by the tailfin. Nothing is more disappointing than going to a fish store and seeing the same old fish and/or unhealthy fish that you don't dare purchase.
And if you could do all of this by next Tuesday, that'd rock.
