And people say Goldfish are stupid?

COMET the goldfish could be the world’s most intelligent fish after his owner taught him to play football, basketball and limbo dance under a bar.

The watery genius can also play fetch with a hoop, zigzag through a series of poles and push a rugby ball over a set of posts. ~ The Sun

I don't dare show my Son, he's taught his Cichlid enough tricks as it is. The same fish that hides when I approach the tank, I might add. "Hi Zap! Ya wanna pellet? Huh? Do ya?" And out she comes like a lamb. Dances for him, goes to the surface expectantly. I go over and she bolts behind the cave like I beat her daily.

Well, I always knew fish were smart (well, smart enough to figure out who I'm after when I put a net in the tank and out maneuver me at every corner of the tank) but that's really something.

I can send you a goldfish that begs the air pump for a treat if you'd like.

I read an article today about animal intelligence in Nat Geo. It said that some African cichlids can determine their rank in the group by observing the interactions of other fish. They can recognize individuals and by watching their fights they can pick their own fights better. Some males will also adopt female colors so they can sneak food from dominant male's territory. Maybe not as neat as fish sports :) but all the more reason to try and provide our critters with an environment more stimulating than solitary confinement in a bowl...

Definitly speaks of more intelligence than we give them credit for. They probably make fun of some people "You put a fish in a bowl and think it will be happy, and you're calling ME stupid?"
