Tumor???

My weather loach over the past few days has developed this...bump? Looks like a pimple to be honest but is quite large!!!! Like for his size.

Can you let me know what you all think and possible help I can give him? Really he is not acting sick and moving around so I'm not sure whether to panic or not?

There's a pretty wide circle of possibilities so I wouldn't start treatment until you have an idea of what you're dealing with, if possible. Could be a number of things - fungus from an injury (is it fuzzy?), a virus or parasite.

If he's acting ok I'd probably isolate him just in case but otherwise just keep the water clean. If it looks like fungus some aquarium salt should clear it up but go easy on it as some Loaches don't seem to like salt. Pimafix is for fungus as well.

Just wanted to update this. The loach recovered fully! The lump had gotten much larger and then all of a sudden started to go down. Now you would not know there had been a massive lump there to begin with???

What it was..I have no idea. But I'm tickled pink that my loachy-poo is just fine :)

Unfortunately that's not necessarily a good thing. Some of the viruses that cause cysts will burst and let loose a bunch more looking for hosts. They don't infect all fish and can remain dormant in the tank. Keep an eye out for similar symptoms. Hopefully I'm wrong and just worried you for no good reason :smile: .
