Platy and Swordtail?

I have a female platy and I think a male swordtail and I was wondering if they would breed?

how do you sex swordtails? does only males have the swords?

Yes, platys and swortails will breed. In fact, that's how the swordtails got some of their pretty colors. Male swordtails often don't develop their swords until later, so it's best to sex them this way: http://www.pacificaquatics.ca/Infosheets-Sexing_Livebearers.html.
