Are we more careless with fish medication than we would be with human medication? I can see it happening. It did happen, in fact, and a toddler almost died. Practical Fishkeeping Magazine (http://www.practicalfishkeeping.co.uk/pfk/pages/item.php?news=1638) reports that a child was hospitalized after drinking fish medication. She drank Wardley Ick Away - Malachite Green. Although she will survive there is a possibility that she will get cancer, as Malachite Green is considered to be a carcinogen.
Please remember that fish medication can make children very sick and may be lethal. When tanks are being treated, keep little hands away from the water. They can also get ill from drinking untreated tank water. Keep in mind that there is also a risk of electrical shock if hands are in the aquarium while equipment is plugged in. Drowning is a real threat as well.
It is safer overall to teach children that the tanks are for looking at, not touching.
