Since we have this great new Catfish forum, I think everyone better belly up to the bar and let us know what they've got. Extra points if you post pics!!

My camera is kinda fubar right now, but soon i'll get ahold of one and post my pics.....

I currently have
1 L66 Scribble (King Tiger)
1 L23 Common
1 L177 Golden
1 L162 Clown

Hopefully with the new tank that i'm hoping to get next week, i may start to breed the L66 or the L177, that is if i can find them some baby makin friends:rolleyes:.

Well we certainly do have lots of Cat fans - seems everyone has at least some.

Mixixe, I don't think I've ever seen a walking catfish, even in stores - do you have pic's?

Dugrant, awesome job with the Wally Otto's! Are there two different kinds of Glass Cats? Seems to me I read that somewhere....

I have

alpha male L46. trying to find a female :\
F1 Cory sterbai
Wild Cory robinae
Wild Otocinclus cocama

F1 BN plecos. I think Ancistrus pirareta

OK WAY out in left thread field here...lol...but if you want to have them contact me, I'd be happy to coach them. PM me if you think you can talk the breeder into it, its really not difficult if you know the few key details. I'm going to post an article on it if I ever get around to taking pic's of the process.

Back to your regularly scheduled program  .

3 white tipped
1 black eyed gold
4 lf albino

Mel how many starlights do you have?

Melody
Dec 23rd 2006, 09:10 PM
Two out of 5 originals. They were wild-caught and I was expecting BN's that were as adaptable as the captive bred ones. They were acclimated into a highish pH 90G designed to suit the snails. They didn't like it - died off one by one, no signs of disease. The two I have left are a pair but one is domestic-raised. I havent' seen any breeding activity as yet. HUGE fish (for me) - that one was right around 8".

eimajr
Dec 24th 2006, 03:12 AM
Melody, you should drop the starlights ph level into the basement, get those black water parameters going. it aint pretty but they'll love you for it:D

Melody
Dec 24th 2006, 03:18 AM
Yup, that's what I was told after the fact...lol...the thing is I know what conditions they prefer, I was just accustomed to dealing with captive bred BN's which are adaptable and fine in very hard water. My pH is probably only around 7.6, but that's still higher than what they like apparently. Add the fact that these were old dogs and we have a problem. Had they been juvenile fish they may have been just fine.

But you're right and that's not something I can give them, so I'll see how the two left do and not get more wild-caught BN's in the future.

5 koolies (hey, I mentioned the dojos, it's only fair)

Maybe we should name this section 'Catfish & Bottom Dwellers' lol

I love Hillstream Loaches. They remind me of those creatures on the old Star Trek. I had them in an established tank for a long time and they did awesome. I moved them to a new (bigger) tank and they were dead in no time. I would take that to mean they require an established tank so proceed with caution.

Little late getting in on this...but I have a small group since the snails do most of the work here.
I have 3 white tipped bn. http://i127.photobucket.com/albums/p129/bettakim/FishandViolets045.jpg

Now if I could only sex the 3 of them... As well I have a very camera shy fairly large golden dojo loach and 2 zipper loaches. I've yet to find any corys that catch my eye.

Melody
Jan 14th 2007, 10:30 PM
Looks like they're growing like weeds! I'm told that males often grow faster than females, so if you have both you may be able to get a hint from varying sizes until the bristles come in.

You strike me as a Sterbai Cory type. IN fact, Mr. Edgezilla has some home-bred Sterbai for sale and I can put some in your box...lol....Have we spent your paycheck for you yet?

bettakim
Jan 15th 2007, 07:21 AM
That picture is of the biggest one, the other two prefer to hide till the lights go out. The other two are small in comparison.
As for spending my paycheck, not even close yet. It's been a good two weeks. :red_dance:
And now that winter has arrived, it's snowing like crazy here, it will only get better. Though still can't get hubby to agree to letting my buy another tank setup. I'll just get him some more tools and make him happy and then he won't even notice when I slip another tank downstairs...

Is it Synodontis nigriventris? Check this link: http://www.wetpetz.com/upsidedown.htm
It's stated there that "It is one of the few Synodontis to be bred in captivity". A few other sites I have checked all seem to indicate it's difficult... but it would be fun to try... and prove them wrong:yes:... Good luck!

According to what I've found, limited success has been made to breed them in captivity and they have not been bred in an aquarium.
Here's something from Aquarticles: http://www.aquarticles.com/articles/breeding/McKenzie_Mitchell_Synodontous.html

and also some additional info here:

I can't imagine a River tank without Hillstream Loaches. Only bottom dwellers? Ghost Cats would love the current, since you're a cat fan, but most any fish that likes a good current would be happy. Mongobay (http://fish.mongabay.com/biotope.htm) has a system that is integrated with Fishbase.org to make it easier to combine fish into appropriate biotopes.

I do hope you'll keep us updated with pictures & such if you can - it will be fun to watch you put it all together.

I will of cource have hillstream loaches (I have one) and cats of all shapes and sizes.

My stocking list:

-at least 3 different plecos
-bottolfeeder cats and other cats
-eels (I have a tire track)
-and whatever else you guys think I need or will give to me haha

I should have around 200 to 300gph and I am still tinkering with the filter.

I was thinking that it will have an intake at the end like a vent and then a tube going into a can filter. Then it would go out the other end.I think I will either use 2 powerheads or hook up a pump to the can filter (wont work)

Edgezilla,

Those pictures of the 260 and 305 were taken when they were still quite young. One of the 260's (the one in the picture) is still too young (I think) to be sexed. The 305s are ready to be sexed now though. :) They're about twice the size as when the pictures were taken.

It's the 3 Mustard spot plecos that I would like sexed. Maybe one day when I have the energy I will pull them out of the 108 gallon and take a good look at them. :) I think I have 1 male and 2 females with them, but I'm not sure.
