In my introduction to the forum I mentioned that I had three Comet goldfish that I had to either build them a pond or give them to my cousin.
Well my wife happened to mention that I needed to fix up a corner of the garden.
A small pond would look nice there said I! It's up to you said she!
Well it is almost complete and soon the Comets will have a larger home.
It is approximately 6.7 feet long and 4 feet wide with depths of 6, 11 and 20 inches.
Extra work included fixing a leaning fence, removing and altering a retaining wall and hitting pure gravel under 6 inches of topsoil.
I still have some cosmetic work to do.

Wow! Great job.
Could you come here and fix a similar bad corner for me? ::D:
You did that in only 4 days? I been trying to convince my hubby I need a pond under the trees. But he says it will fill up with Spruce needles and Pine needles and pine cones and it wouldn't be good for the fish so no Pond for me! Unless I want to cut down the huge spruce and pine trees in the back yard.

Very nice job, thanks for sharing the project with us. It's a bit shallow at 20" but it should suffice - how much area is at the max depth? You may have a problem keeping the temperature stable in a shallow pond but it looks well shaded. Then you need a plan for the Fall - maybe the wife will let you fill that corner of the livingroom with a 200G tank  .

Ah yes, that's where you get to incorporate tank space into renos. Sure dear, you wanted to redo the kichen (living room, family room, etc.), no problem. (...and you then incorporate a tank into the renos  )

Thanks for the comments.
Yes it took 4 days but over the period of a week. I wanted to go deeper but the spot I picked was on top of TV cable. Luckily I did not cut any.
The pond gets morning sun but is shaded for the rest of the day. It is also on the North side of the house which is 10 degrees cooler than the south.
The 20" depth is a circle of 30" in diameter.
I had a half barrel on the patio (North) that was about 20" deep and the water never got too warm. I kept a thermometer in it and I don't remember it getting above 78.
I will keep an eye on the temperature though.
I now have unitl September to decide what I am going to do with the Comets.
I've thrown back smallmouth bass smaller then my biggest Comet.
I don't have any room to put a 200g tank.
I have to do some organizing in the basement because I would like to have a four foot tank this fall.
In my ignorance I have a common pleco in my 25g which my 3 year old granddaughter told me "it scares me Grampa" as she stood 4 feet from the tank.
Does it ever end!!

Nope... and in some twisted, perverted, masochistic way we all love that it doesn't
Oh come on all of you... ADMIT IT!
