Once again, we are faced with yet another reminder of the serious potential impact of the wild release of aquarium fish.

Apparently Lionfish have been released into the Altantic where they are not native and "have few, if any, predators". There are concerns about the potentially devastating effect on coral reefs. Studies have "found one lionfish can deplete 79 percent of a reef in just five weeks."

If they keep this up, the warmer States are just going to ban tropical fish.

I think they should push for stores to provide information about wild release. An information sheet about each species with notes about wild release would be a good start. We can do a lot online but we can't reach everyone.

Thanks for reminding me of our important role in reaching people. Somewhere along the way (probably during one of my late night testing) I removed the http://www.canadianaquariumconnection.com/ad-images/NoWildRelease.jpgfrom my sig and so now have put it back.
