Hi I have these on the glass of the aquarium this is the second out break of this in my tank,They retract when touched. The first time I treated with salt which worked temporarily, also my red spotted severum has a sore that kind of looks like pimples.

I've never seen them live before, but by the picture, I'd say Hydra.

I'm not sure how to get rid of them, a quick Google search should give an answer.

Flubendazole (http://www.inkmkr.com/Fish/FlubendazoleArticle.pdf) should clear them up for you.

Holy Gees!

I got this in my Newt tank! I was wondering if it was eggs or whatever!

Ok going to buy the Flu stuff!

They enjoy fry as a light snack, so they're not welcome visitors for breeders. :wideeyed:

Not fries (to my knowledge), fry as in babies...er...baby fish that is... your McDonalds fries should be safe  .

Flubendazole, if I understand correctly, is usually the perscribed brand to our land pets or in agriculture. Flubenol is your drug name specifically and there are various brands. According to a quick Google, Jungle's Parasite Clear contains it. Wholesalers might have a bulk form on hand.

I have read that it will kill snails/inverts and is hard on delicate (probably scaleless/fine-scaled) fish. Having never tried it (that I can remember anyway), I can't tell you much more about it. I researched it a long time ago when I was dealing with stubborn internal parasties in my quarantine tank. With snails to worry about, I didn't use it.

My LFS said to turn off the light and turn up the heat and add salt.

He said using that med is complicated and very dangerous for the fish (newt). So I opted out of that treatment as i really like my Newt (Fig Newton is his name).

He also said that the parasite could have come in the high protien pellets I use for the crabs and newt. They are not a big deal but look ugly.

It doesn't get much easier than Jungle tabs, but he's probably talking about measuring the med and treating the tank that way.

Commercial food is sterilized so that's unlikely. You just never know what that LFS guy of yours is going to come out with....lol. Plants can bring them in though - are there any of those in the tank? They can also come in with live foods, driftwood, water (outside or infected store tanks) and even snails. Maybe they came in on the crabs.

Your main concern would be transferring the Hydra to your fry tanks, so I would bleach everything before it goes into the other tanks (nets, etc).

I am concerned about my black ghost knife fish if I medicate it seems really sensitive to water quality changes when I put the salt in for the hydra the first time it was clearly stressed (even though I heard they can be kept in brackish) and just lodged itself in the floating plants and didn't move I even touched it once and it didn't even move I relocated it right away in to my shrimp tank and acted normally right away, it also enjoyed the company of my bee shrimp..... the shrimp not so much . Nothing else in the tank was bothered (except a few snails and hydra) I also really like the plants in that aquarium.

Yes, I've heard the Black Ghosts are sensitive so I can understand your concern. Maybe you can at least bring the number down by cutting way back on your feeding and manually squishing them. Otherwise you could sterilize the tank/contents including the plants.

I had a hydra problem in my yellow shrimp tank, I put in some spixi snails and the hydra's dissapeared. I guess spixi's find them tasty.

I've said it before and I'll say it again - I'm not smart, I just fake it better than everyone else  . But for the rest of the people who hang out here, I'd have to agree with you. :GEEK:

Except for your co-Admin who is virtually clueless. Well, not exactly... I have learned a whole lot from folks around here... and keep learning something new every day, which is great. That's one of the things which makes this hobby interesting and so much fun... always something to learn.

Individually we may not know a lot but collectively our community here at CAC has a wealth of knowledge and experiences to share. ::D:

I can cure that within a year with $89/hour daily sessions. And if you act now, you'll get this free net set!
