Once the Christmas rush is over, I have some Ameca Splendens I'd like to find new homes for.
I have both male and female, young and old.
These are very hardy fish and tough enough to handle themselves even with fairly aggressive tankmates.
Although I have only ever had one case of them being overly aggressive, they have a bit of a reputation of being a little on the aggressive side. It maybe due partly to the size and stocking of the tank they are in.
That's why I'd like to find homes for a few of mine, the last batch of fry have put their tanks on the edge of being overstocked.
I don't have any pictures as yet, but I'll get some up in the next day or two.
I'm not looking to make any money from these guys, so lets say $1.00 each for unsexed fry and $2.00 each for sexed adults.
Shipping is on the buyer, actual shipping cost will be charged.
If you have any rare or unusual livebearers, shrimp, crayfish or snails, I'm always up for a trade !

Enough are sold now !

Did you forget a zero or something? I was selling those for $15-$20/pair if I recall correctly....lol...those are mutt Guppy prices! You could probably get more than that from a store. Best grab them quickly people, before he changes his mind.:wideeyed:
They're difficult to get pic's of because they have highly reflective scales (part of their beauty). I'm sure you'll manage to get some but I thought I'd post mine in the meantime - hope you don't mind.
They change color according to how the light hits them. These are young adults so they're not showing their full finnage coloring. If you look closely, you'll see that the fins all reflect the same pattern as the tail - black & yellow, which intensifies with age.

I agree that they can hold their own in an aggressive tank as long as the fish wasn't big enough to actually swallow them...lol...tough little buggers and bold as brass. Its a great opportunity for those with more aggressive tanks to own a Livebearer.
If I had the space for them I'd snag them in a minute  .

Like I said, I'm not selling them for the money, just the space.
If someone's interested in a very robust, acitive fish, I'm happy to share them around.

I should be able to ship some to you, I'll have to get some bags and a heatpack, but shouldn't be a problem.
You mentioned your daughter 'only has 4 tanks' . What size of tanks and tankmates will the fish have ? I don't want to overstock you or send you incompatible fish.
PM me your location and I'll get an estimate of shipping cost.

Blaine, I inadvertently came across a Canadian (Saskatchewan) in search of the Splendens. The thread is from October, but I figured connecting the two of you up wouldn't hurt  . You'll have to join to reply to him - I can't find my log-in info, as usual , so I couldn't refer him to you here.

Sounds like things might be a little crowded already, for space they'll need the 30 gal for sure. I'm not sure how well they'll get along with the other tank mates.
How many did you want, do you want males, females or a mix ?

And here they are scattering from the camera.
I don't know why, but as soon as the camera gets close to the glass, everyone hides.

Right now they're housed in 2 15 gal and one 40 gal tanks. As new fry come I keep having to spread them out more and more.
They don't drop many fry at each drop, but every year or so they can easily crowd a smaller tank. ( FYI, the fry are huge, nearly an inch long at birth)
Population control is fairly easy though, the female doesn't hold sperm like a Molly or Platy, each batch of fry require a new mating. I would/should control my own population, but they seem happier as a group and this way I get to spread them around.
If you're looking for a higher calling, these fish are now critically endangered in the wild.
