I am an online Boxing Day shopper if I do it at all. Last year I shopped J&L's (http://www.jlaquatics.com/) Boxing Day Sale from home (which you can still catch online, incidentally). I don't get to experience those long line-ups, crowds and general feeling of excitement. So what I want to know is, how was the mood out there? Were people getting grumpy or were they still in a good mood? I find that the pre-Christmas rush shoppers get grumpy. What do you think were the best deals out of all you saw today? Any suggestions for merchants for next year?

And finally, had you waited until tomorrow or later in the week to snag Boxing Week sale deals, do you think they'd still be in stock? Was it worth all of the trouble of coping with the crowds today?

Where did you do your online shopping this year?

I don't like crowds so I stay well away from the big chain electronics stores, shopping centres on Boxing Day. These big chain stores like FS have decent online shopping ususally with free shipping so that's good enough for me.

If I catch the Boxing Day sales for the fish stores, I try to do it early, like within half an hour of opening, grab my merchandise and leave. Staff are still in good spirits then, if not a little groggy, no major line-ups to contend with. So no grumpiness experiences here, but maybe it's because I pick my spots.

I think pre-Christmas shopping moods are different because there is a shortage of time and pressure buying something that maybe they're unsure about ie. gift suitable? Boxing Day is pure self-gratification, you know what you want, you're buying for yourself and there's no deadline - just an Easter egg hunt for goodies/bargains.

I'm buying hardware, there's plenty in stock so "no limited items in each store" for me.

I didn't shop online or offline this year - Christmas cost me enough. I guess that's also part of the pre-Christmas mood. On Boxing day you choose to spend money, for Christmas you have to.

Sounds good so far - I guess having a strategy and knowing what you want helps considerably.

J&L was pretty good. I got a master test kit there. Big Al's was crazy though so I didn't bother.

We went out to Al's in Bby, I did look through the livestock...I found some beautiful veil tail angels...the hubby found wild caught geo somethings:confused:, and some of the very first bred in captivity, in the WORLD:wideeyed:....from Lee & Lisa Newman's personal stock, again they are geo somethin' or other, he'll kill me for not knowing the specific names of his special fish, too confusing for me to pronounce, and so long of a word I nap before he's finished pronouncing, then spelling phonetically for me to understand:SLEEP: , sooo....we found the livestock superb, and it helps that we caught Mrs Newman herself to help us, she's our fav there!!!!

We made a couple of other stops, all LFS's, but none really worth mentioning....in general just a fun day looking @ livestock...you know like every weekend!!!

Nice scores! Hope they do well for you! Definitly worth the hassle for you then.

I REALLY wanted to hit Pacific Aquatics, since he's not TOO far away, but maaaannnn Christmas hit me hard this year. I didn't even know that negative numbers went that far until I saw my credit card bill. He'd have to make me do water changes to pay for my purchase, although knowing him he'd let me do that.....lol....awesome guy to deal with.

Oh well, next year will be a better year :Celebrate: . Besides, I DID manage to hit the BC_Kron 'Everything Must Go' sale, so I'm not exactly suffering over here ;) .

Mr. Edge just reminded me that I did indeed score a Boxing Day deal, although it was more of a pre-Boxing-Week deal. I got some 100% pure Spirulina Tablets at half price :D . So much for my pathetic whining....lol.

Always great to find new fish. At least you can pronounce the names of what you got! I'm sure hubby will forgive you for not remembering the name of something you can't pronounce... as long as you oooh & ahhh over them. ;) . I'm assuming they are the Retroculus Xinguensis he posted the pics of in the Photo section. They're beauties. Now it's your turn...to post pics of your veil tail angels.

Not fish stuff? Well, if you could figure out how to use it to make homemade fish food, then it could be calssified as fish stuff.;)

Edit: Good deal, BTW!

I used to practically live on bologna & melted cheese sandwiches that I made in my Mother's oven like that. They make good mini pizzas on English Muffins too. Good deal!

I was at BA twice on Boxing Day. I went back there the next day, and will be there tom. Hahaha, I spent more money on the fish than on myself :wideeyed:

LOL Is there anything left on the shelves? What did they sell out of? I'm just wondering if its worth the hassle of going on Boxing Day?

I was there the first thing in the morning on boxing day. Everything was in stock. No line up except waiting to pay;) I just got back from BA toady. Bought a Coralife light fixture and checked out other stuffs. Most of the stuffs are in stock. Even if it's not in stock, they can write you a raincheck. I only check out the equipments. I didn't even brother to check out the livestock, heheh

I didn't know they were doing raincheques/checks. Do most of the stores do that? That's handy  .
