OO.... My Brigs have started laying eggs... that's not so bad as I was monitoring a couple of clutches that are an inch or so from the top of the tank... then I noticed a clutch on some bamboo that I have growing out of the tank... seems Mrs. snail likes climbing onto the Bamboo at night....

Now for the real problem.... the snails that are laying their eggs are in a large 50+ tank that is open at the top....no glass. nottta

Are these snails going to wonder away from the water? do I have a problem here?

Congrats on the clutches. Is the clutch on the bamboo out of the tank? If so, it'd likely get too dry there so I'd remove it and try hatching it in a ziplock bag or container. See tips on hatching in this thread: Hatching Applesnail Clutches (http://www.canadianaquariumconnection.com/forum/showthread.php?t=129)

As for the open tank, if a female doesn't care for any spots she finds in the tank, yes she will go wandering in search of a better location. An open top is an invitation to travel. However, that seems to occur more with the first clutch a female will lay as she is very, very picky with that one. After the first one, the same female will often lay in the same or similar spot. No guarantees on that however. :wideeyed:

Thanks for the info... the bamboo where she laid her eggs is about 5-6" above the water line..

Silly girl... it'll likely dry out there, so if I were you I'd remove it. (Easiest to do after 12-24 hours).

I would definitly be worried about them wandering. The eggs will probably dry out in an open-top aquarium. Although they lay above the waterline in the wild, the sun's heat causes mucho evaporation to keep them moist.

Congrat's on the breeding!
