TETRA PRESS AQUARIOLOGY SERIES 1992
The Tetra Press Aquariology series is dedicated to providing the most in-depth and current information on the fascinating scientific and technical aspects of fishkeeping. ~ Cover
This series of books are surprisingly easy to read and understand, regardless of your hobby experience. Some of the most highly respected names in fish keeping history share their educated opinions, experiences and information with us in books that even advanced fish keepers refer to time and time again. If you're after a deeper look into the aspects of fish keeping and breeding, these are the books to read.
I have no complaints about these books. Even their age doesn't impact the information to any significant degree because much of the information is still the latest we have. I can only hope that we will have a better selection similar books in the future. As in-depth as they are by comparison to other fishkeeping books, they still left me wanting more... granted, I will always want more no matter how much I learn, so that's an unfair expectation :GEEK:.

Dr. John B. Gratzek, Dr. Paul V. Loiselle and Dr. Joanne Norton

The Genetics section is written entirely by my hobby hero, the late Dr. Joanne Norton. She covers genetic material, inheritance, breeding (with Angelfish breeding practical application), hybridization and how to develop/improve the fish we breed.
Dr. Norton was the authority on both Angelfish and Livebearer genetics and she also founded the American Livebearer Association in 1971. The discoveries she made and documented provide information that we would never have known if she were not also an enthusiastic hobbyist. Her fascination and passion for fish keeping and breeding, combined with her education, resulted in a whole new level of knowledge. She did all of this when science was still very much a man's world, quickly earning the respect of colleagues. From what I'm told of her personality, she probably didn't much care what they thought either way:laugh:.
Who are these other Dr. This & That's anyways? It didn't matter to me who co-authored this book because it was Dr. Norton's writing that I was after. After reading their contributions, I realized I had more people to highly respect.
Dr. John B. Gratzek covers the basics of getting started and Dr. Paul V. Loiselle covers the breeding section. Both go well into their respective topics.
Dr. Loiselle covers breeding guidelines, Livebearers and egg layers (separate sections on those who do and do not practice parental care).

Dr. John B. Gratzek, Dr. Howard E. Evans, Dr. Robert E. Reinert and Dr. Robert A. Winfree

Now this is a book that I learned A LOT from. Trying to search out detailed information about aquarium fish in regards to anatomy, physiology and nutrition is a frustrating endeavor for the most part. Much of the information available revolves around fish intended for human consumption for starters.
Dr. Evans covers the anatomy, including every system from nervous to reproductive, as well as an interesting section on fins and locomotion.
Dr. Reinert takes us into the physiology department, covering sensory systems, respiration, osmoregulation and stress response.
Dr. Winfree gets into one of my favourite topics, nutrition and feeding. He covers feeding stimuli, functional anatomy of feeding and digestion, food nutrients and their functions, choices in fish foods and feeding practices.
