A magnetic pump has been invented with marine aquarists in mind. The pump keeps the motor and it's heat out of the water, attached to the propeller piece with magnets.

Cool idea. It would also be helpful in a freshwater environment if you live somewhere where you are constantly battling to keep temps down during the high temps of the summer.

Through the glass is a novel approach for a pump set up but the average HOB uses a magnetic coupling to keep the electrical stuff out of the water. It seems more evolution than revolution to me.

Ah, but even with a HOB the moving parts (and thus the heat producing parts) are still in contact with the water. But I do see your point.

This pump was designed for saltwater use as a powerhead for in the tank. The Sale cost of this little toy is over $300.00. I know... just ordered one for my new saltwater tank that I will be setting up in November
