The big plastic trunk I bought for the gold fish bulges when you fill it with water, so I was a little scared it would eventually weaken and tear. So brought in the barrel insert and stuck it beside my aquariums in the basement. It sticks out in the way, so get this hubby(the man that said enough fish tanks)suggests I find, but not buy another tank and we will put it in the basement bathroom on the counter to house the goldfish for the winter. I just about fell over. My brother just happens to have an empty one.
I had recently set up a 5 gallon on my laundry counter for a drop/nursery tank.
So was totally surprised he would even suggest another one.
i was suppose to keep it at eight, well I have 8:secret: plus the 9th one on the laundry stand. The 10th one a plastic container housing one of the male garderi tucked in beside one of the basement tanks. The 11th Critter keeper in the computer room with the pair of oeseri and the 12th big tub/going to be aquarium for the goldfish.
I hope he can't count.:biggrin::Angel:

Thank goodness they are tolerant and choose not to count. Mine has even claimed one of my 10s as hers so I don't need to count that one. I do need to look after it though. She only picks out the fish that go in it, the rest of the tank is still mine. This includes feeding, water changes, cleaning, plant care, etc.

OOOps it is all the fault of the killis! .... and the gold fish.....and the pregnant livebearers. But on the other hand I have quite a ways to go to get to 50 and that is only counting your running tanks!!!

So your hubby surprised you with his suggestion, did he? I think (just maybe) he realizes how much you enjoy your fish and looked at the practical aspect of it, and suggested another tank (the fact that he might spend the winter tripping over the barrel in the basement just might have had a little something to do with it). As for not counting, it's possible that he doesn't count plastic tubs or critter keepers and/or he's not good at math. Whatever you do, do not clarify the count for him. :twitcy: ... he might change his mind. :wideeyed:

Now I have another tank coming but it doesn't have to come far. I found one today on Craigs list and it is in front of the house in my pickup truck bed. It needs a good cleaning before I bring it in the house but it was a very nice deal. It is a 55 with hood, a filter, dirty gravel, a few decorations for the next auction, an air pump, 2 heaters and misc other stuff. The hood needs rewiring to fit T-8 bulbs and install a modern electronic ballast or maybe an AHSupply retrofit kit for plants but it doesn't work right now. Total cost to me was 120 miles of gas in the pickup and $50. I will be the first to admit I seldom get a deal like that. The person that was selling it was moving and had given up fish a few years ago and just had it stored in an out building. My biggest surprise was that she still had it, since the listing was 6 days old. The filter is a Marineland Emperor 400 model with the 2 biowheels, so it is worth as much as I paid for the whole thing. The stand that came with it I have in the bin, but I couldn't bring myself to tell her that she might as well keep it. It didn't cost me anything to haul it away except a few minutes to load it and 10 minutes to break it down for tomorrow's pickup at the curb.

Congrats on your new used tank. So how many does that make for you?

It's great to find a deal like that... a little work cleaning it up and you're good to go. Now, do you have any idea what you're going to put in it?

:Applaud: Is there anything more exciting than a new tank to fill? I'm happy for U 2!
Pam, he's having an affair. That's the only possible explanation. :NoSass:
Don't tell him I said that.
Besides, if he was stupid enough to do that, the men would be lined up for blocks to take the place of a man who doesn't appreciate the love of a good woman and homemade pie.
Does anyone know where Jay went? He was here just a second ago.... Must have gone to get a spot at the front of the line, just in case. ::D:
BUT seriously though, he's probably just hiding the urge to indulge you behind irritation. They like to do that.
As for me, I'm all excited because I'm finally organizing, consolidating and taking down some tanks. I've been meaning to do it since I took the day job a year and a half ago. Since there's big boxes going to the schools tomorrow it's the perfect time. I'm ruthlessly tossing fish, snails, misc equipment and supplies into the boxes. Any junk I run across has a place right beside me in a big black garbage bag. It was starting to stress me out and the hobby was never meant to do that. Now I can kick back and enjoy again. I'm even replanning what I'm keeping so it will be a fresh start entirely.
What? Tanks for sale? Well of course not, don't be ridiculous. Y'all know they'll slowly be set up again by next year, but in the meantime I feel productive and proactive damnit!

He does like to complain, but is usually the first one to say that stand is not good enough. I should make you another one. So far I have two that he has made one of wood and one of steel. He has also done wiring, we live in a house that is almost 100 years old. So there is usually on one plug in each room. He has also made it so in the winter I can have my hose go through to corner of the cold air return to the laundry tubs in the basement so no need to use that attachment on the python that wastes water.

Pam, his complaining may be the only way he figures he can keep your MTS in check (relatively speaking) That's a neat idea he came up with as to how have the water drain to the basement laundry tub (let gravity do the work). I'll bet doing it that way you get waterchanges upstairs done in record time.
Melody, that's a great project for the long weekend. It always feels good to get organized (even if it only lasts for a while). (for me the problem is just that... it just doesn't last  ).

Some times though he just does it to get me going!

This time of year I put the hose out on the deck and use gravity to water all the plants under the deck.

Pam, I'm sure plants do very well with all that tank water. I use some to water my few (indoor) plants when I do water changes and they have neve done so well.

The way I count them, I think that makes 16 Pamelajo. Today has been a good day to move a stand that has 2 10 gallons on it to make room where I need to build a new stand for the 55.
The new tank has gravel in it so I didn't want to fill my water change buckets with the gravel until I got those 10s moved. Now I can empty the gravel from the new tank and get to work cleaning and preparing for the setup. The 55 can sit on the floor in its permanent location if it must while I build the stand. Once I test the new gravel it may get pitched. Some of the miscellaneous supplies that came with it turned out to include a large number of pH adjusting bottles. The gravel is light colored and might have a lot of limestone in it. It will be worth testing before I put it back into the tank. There are plenty of other bags of sand at my house that I don't really need that gravel for a new setup.
I have been designing the stand so that it won't be too tall to go in front of a north facing window. If I can keep the top below the window, most of the stray light should be kept out and I'll still be able to use the window for ventillation.

That is another thing that's my undoing - everytime I want to do something, I have to do 16 other things first to finish the task I have in mind. Even waterchanges are interfered with - have to do the dishes first because I can't get at the sink, by that time the dryer is done so I have to put another load of wash in, then there's no hot water and by the time there's enough hot water, I have to make dinner, which results in more dishes... and on it goes.

That sounds vaguely familiar.

Sorry about my rambling Pamelajo and Melody. I felt a little out of place talking about moving a 10 gallon while my, new to me, 55 sat in the pickup truck in the driveway. It somehow just seemed wrong.

You were not rambling. It is part of the hobby. The worst part rearranging tanks. Every time I do it I tell myself that is it no more moving tanks.

My new to me tank is here, but sitting empty in the basement. Hubby needs to check the counter where it is going to go to make sure it will hold it. And of course he decides to go to be early tonight of all nights. Of all the nerve.::(:

It was all that turkey dinner...if he's like me, he ate way too much and is too tired to tackle anything...lol. You'll just have to be patient. Of course, by tomorrow night this will be you::Waiting:
