Planning to go out to celebrate on New Year's Eve? How are you getting home after the party? Don't drink and drive. Plan in advance. There are a number of options available:

I've listed some of them below. Feel free to add anything I've forgotten and also what's available in your area.

Have a designated driver who opts to abstain from drinking for the evening.
Take a taxi (Be prepared to call well in advance especially for the return trip, this is an extremely busy night for cab companies.)
If you're lucky enough to have been invited to stay the night so you can drive home the next day, accept the invitation.
Book a hotel room within walking distance to the celbrations.
Take transit (It's free after 5 pm on New Year's Eve in the Vancouver area.)
Highlights:

SkyTrain and Seabus – one additional hour of service: last train and ferry from Waterfront Station leaves at 2:20 am.

:Celebrate: Dont forget Operation Red Nose! The service doesn't extend to New Years Eve in all areas so be sure to check first.

:HappyReindeer:

Operation Red Nose is available in BC, AB, NS, NB, PQ, MB, ON and PEI. Just click on the link and select your Province.

"Operation Red Nose is a unique program dedicated against drinking and driving. Essentially, it is a volunteer driving service provided during the Christmas Holiday Season to all drivers who have been drinking or who do not feel fit to drive their own vehicle back home. It is an original and free way of getting a safe ride in our own vehicle without driving it!"

You can also volunteer in your own city if that appeals. You could be saving many lives.

Have a safe & peaceful 2007!

:Celebrate:

It's almost time to ring in 2008! Tomorrow night is New Year's Eve. Also time to bump this thread as a reminder to everyone to plan a way of getting home safely after the celebrations.

I've updated the initial post with the current New Year's Eve transit info for the Vancouver area.

Also, Operation Red Nose (http://www.operationrednose.com) is once again an option for a free ride home (see Melody's post above for details) but again this year check first to ensure it's available on New Years in your area.

Please add any suggestions or info about transportation options in your area.

We would like everyone to have a great time .:red_dance: And we would like everyone to find their way home safely after the party! Be safe! Don't drink and drive! :Worried:

In the GTA the GO Trans are free after 7pm till they stop operating. Furthermore the TTC in Toronto is free from 12:01am to 4am New Years morning curtesy of Capital One Credit Cards. Furthermore a number of Municipalities around the GTA are doing something similiar. So please there are many ways of getting home this NYE without having to drive. Be Safe and Enjoy

Yes, I don't want to make that kind of announcement about any of our members in the new year. Have fun & get back to us safely for another year of idle fish chat!
