View Full Version : Celestial Pearl Danios: are they jumpers?

I'm considering getting 6 of these for my tank at work. The main reason is that the heater evaporates the water too quickly so I want to remove it. That means the betta will have to be moved back home to one of my other tanks. Since CPD prefer cooler water and are small, I thought they would be well suited to a 5G planted tank. And as luck would have it, the LFS has some that are nice and healthy (they've been there a while and show no signs of disease). My only concern is that the tank is open topped and I would hate for them to jump to their deaths. Anyone here have any experience with them?

most of my tanks are open and from experience the water only evaporates very slightly faster in the heated tanks vs. the unheated tanks.

I thought Bettas jumped? Did you have a top on your tank when you had the Betta in there?

I've always kept my bettas in open topped tanks with no problems. They are nowhere near as fast a swimmer as other fish so I figure the odds of them jumping are much lower.
As for evaporation, the heater only went into the tank a week or two ago and I have seen a dramatic increase in the rate of evaporation. It doesn't help that the air here is much drier than the Lower Mainland.

Where are you buying the Danios from? a LFS?
I am just reading about them today, and I think I am in love....

Have never had a problem with cpd's jumping, perhaps leave an inch or two of the tank empty and keep an eye on them.

Pinto, Pisces in Calgary has some. That probably doesn't really help you though.
